1) DISCUSSION QUESTION

This week, we’ll be examining how our legal system protects persons who are injured by the purposeful act of another. These types of injuries are called intentional torts. The legal claims of assault, battery, false imprisonment, invasion of privacy and defamation are examples of intentional torts.

For this discussion, choose one of the scenarios listed below and determine the intentional tort that you think applies. Make sure to explain your answer, including the elements of the claim, why you think those elements are or are not present, and what other information you would need to make this determination.

  • A group of people protesting a company’s employment practices in the lobby of a building is surrounded by private security guards hired by the company.
  • A teenager sends a joking message to his best friend telling him that there is a bomb in his basement.
  • You accidently leave your personal journal at the local coffee shop. Another customer finds it and shares your innermost secrets on his blog, but never identifies you as being the writer of the journal.
  • At a family reunion at your parents’ home, you see Dave, a second cousin, place a very expensive bottle of wine in a duffle bag and quickly walk out of the backdoor. You quickly go to your father and tell him that Dave stole wine from the family wine cellar and your father calls the police. In reality, your mother told Dave to pick any bottle of wine as a belated birthday present.

2) PEER REVIEW#1 (CHRISTINA)

I’m going to comment on the group protesting and surrounded by security guards. This can be seen as false imprisonment. It is possible that the protestors could win; first the guards are private security and are surrounding the group. They could be blocking their way to get through. The protestors can feel threatened since the guards have blocked their exits. They lawfully have the right to protest. However in the scenario it does not state whether anything was said to the protesters. The guards have not told them they could not leave nor have they touched them. Protestors are aware that security can show up to stop the situation form getting out of control in a public place.

If it was me though the guards surrounding me would make me feel like I was being held against my intent and being forced to be the area.

3) PEER REVIEW#2 (KELLY)

  • A teenager sends a joking message to his best friend telling him that there is a bomb in his basement.

I selected this because I thought that it was a little difficult to decide which tort would best fit. But I think the tort that applies is Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress. I initially thought that it was a threat, but after reading the statement thoroughly it’s not saying that he put the bomb in the basement but that there is one. So the person could just think that it’s an informative statement and that is where the intentional emotional distress comes into play. The part that complicates this is that the person that did it is a teenager. I would assume that depending on the situation, it’s possible the restitution would be paid by the parents.

The most unethical activity that can be associated with scientific communication in my opinion is dishonesty. I found an article that helps to support and justify my opinion. The article is called “Principles and Ethics in Scientific Communication in Biomedicine”. This article discussess how important is is for research papers to be honest because thier results are often used to improve care provided to paitents as well as their quality of life (Donev, 2013). As a nurse I couldn’t agree more as the whole concept of receiving a bachelor degree in nursing is to be able to apply evidence based practice to the care I provide to my patients and promote change. To do that, the research we use to support and implement changes in helthcare must be honest and legitimate or patients well being may be negatively effected.

According to my opinion the most unethical activity that can be associated with scientific communication is dishonesty. The article that supports my opinion is Acta informatica medica. The article is called “Principles and Ethics in Scientific Communication in Biomedicine”. To present the basic principles and standards of scientific communication and writing a paper, to indicate the importance of honesty and ethical approach to research and publication of results in scientific journals, as well as the need for continuing education in the principles and ethics in science and publication in biomedicine. It is necessary to further strengthen the capacity for education and research, and raising awareness about the importance and need for education about the principles of scientific communication, ethics of research and publication of results. Scientific communication plays critical role in medical sector because everybody depends on science and believes it too. If science generate the new technology or procedure in medical field it must be very useful but if they don’t communicate truth to people than they may lose from public. So, scientific communication should be clear, correct, and current. In order to create an ethical environment, it is important to prevent publication dishonesty and fruid.

marketing plan presentation 3

Marketing, while not a formal part of my final project, is an important aspect of program planning, design, and evaluation. In order for my program to be effective, I need to get the word out. This presentation identifies how I plan to do that.

For this assignment, develop a brief presentation demonstrating an effective social marketing plan for your program (identified in Milestone One). This marketing plan should follow the five Ps of marketing: Below I have the attachments of the Rubric for this assignment as well as the Milestone One(Program Plan) in order to help complete the presentation. Guidelines for Submission: Your assignment must be submitted as a 2 slide presentation with at least three sources, which should be cited according to APA style.

science of cooking lab

If you randomly take a piece of candy from a bag, how much will it weigh? It seems like a simple question, and in many ways it is a simple question, but the procedure we use to answer that question will dramatically influence how reliable the answer is when we move on to the next piece of candy in the bag. Measuring a physical quantity involves not just getting “the” answer (how much did the one piece of candy weigh), but also including some indication of how much that answer can be trusted or repeated (how confident you can be that the next piece you take will weigh the same amount). The goal of this lab is to use a straight forward set-up to begin to understand how to collect, analyze, and interpret data from a scientific experiment.

You will need:

  1. Approximately 20 to 50 small candies (m&m’s, jelly beans, gummy bears, etc) or other small food objects (dried beans, nuts, etc).
  2. Kitchen scale (set to grams)
  3. Notebook or computer to record data
