Chapter 7 discusses legislatures.  The US Senate has a procedure called a filibuster.  A filibuster is a political procedure where one or more members of parliament or congress debate over a proposed piece of legislation so as to delay or entirely prevent a decision being made on the proposal.  Some see the filibuster as a simple “waste of time.”  However, others argue that the filibuster is an important legislative tool that will allow the minority party some influence and will result in legislation that involves compromise.  Research tells us that a filibuster or the threat of a filibuster typically results in more “moderate” legislation.  Here is a video explaining more about the filibusterfrom my good friend Keith Hughes

In recent months, some politicians have been saying that they want to “end the filibuster!”  Do you think that it is a good/bad idea?  Explain.  What are some positives/negatives of removing this long standing legislative procedure?
