What is the difference between a culture that is well-adapted and mal-adapted. Choose one example of each from the cultures profiled in your textbook and/or in the film, “Cultural Anthropology: Subsistence Systems.” Give reasons for why you made your choice. What do you think are indicators of a well-adapted and mal-adapted culture.

Because trade can be essential in the quest for survival and is often undertaken for the sake of luxury, people may go to great lengths to establish and maintain good trade relations. A classic example of this is the Kula ring.

What is the “kula ring.” Describe this form of exchange and compare it to different types of exchange in your society. Illustrate your answer with examples from the film, “Strangers Abroad: Off the Verandah.” Do we practice anything similar to Kula in Canadian society /or in your society – be specific which society you are referring to)?
