After completing The Glass Castle, think about your own life.

You have been assigned to write a memoir. According to Dictionary.com, A “memoir” is a “record of events written by a person having intimate knowledge of them and based on personal observation. In this assignment, as Walls, you will not attempt to capture your entire life, but “windows” into your life. You want to think about the memoir we have been reading, The Glass Castle, and use it as a model in your writing.

You are to create 4 (four) windows into your life.

Window #1: Review Walls’ early life and compare OR contrast a story of your early life to Walls’ life.

Window #2: Select a poem or song (provide lyrics) that you believe represents your life. Read the poem and make personal connections to the lines in the poem.

Window #3: Select a character from the Memoir and compare OR contrast a person in your life who is representative of the character.

Window #4: Think about the definition of “family,” as represented in the Walls’ family. Talk about how you agree or disagree about how Walls’ family moves through life. Talk about how your family represents family – and who are specifically your family members. What is your own definition of family? Why?
