Emancipation Proclamation

President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation was both a political and military risk and made at a time of uncertainty about the course of the Civil War. It was also a brave and noble effort that served long-simmering beliefs held dear by many in America from the earliest days of the new country’s creation. In your analysis of the Proclamation, consider whether its issuance achieved the stated objectives of ending slavery and whether this was an appropriate action for the President – or if it was actually a vain effort that should have been addressed through other governmental action.
