Revenue in Sport Excel Assignment #1

Please keep in mind that access to the information you are looking for is readily available for this

assignment, when it comes to revenues and expenses. So long as you are not off by a $Billion, you will be

fine. The major point of this assignment, and how your grade is determined, is to present this in Excel in a

professional manner. Best grades go to most professional presentation.

1. You have access to a mostly blank Excel worksheet with only three areas highlighted. These are:

• Title

• Income

• Expenses
o You can move and change these if you want, they are just meant as a starting

point.

2. Select a professional franchise. Identify expenses or sources of income that you believe would be
part of running this professional sport franchise.

3. In at least 2 areas (Total Income and Total Expenses), use the ‘SUM’ function in Excel.

4. Reference Total Income and Total Expenses when calculating the Total Revenue.

5. Provide explanations for your Total Expenses and Total Revenues.
a. Explain how you arrived at these numbers and why they make sense.
b. Merge the appropriate cells and make sure to ‘Wrap Text’.

6. Calculate future expected values for the next year.
a. Accomplish this by using the cells to the right of each individual Income and Expense

item.

b. Increase Income by 2.7%.
c. Increase Expenses by 2.5%.
d. Use the ‘Drag and Copy Formula’ method so you don’t have to type this formula into

every box. (Hint: Make sure to do these 2 different times for Income and Expenses,

separately).

7. Create another ‘Total’ cell for both Income and Expenses.
a. SUM the ‘next year’ figures.

8. Place your name on the sheet.
a. Make sure it is easy to see.

9. Submit to Canvas.
