How do you tell if your fetal pig a male or a female? Draw examples of the male and female
external anatomy structures and explain how the structures differentiate between a male and a female pig.

What is the purpose of the epiglottis? Where is it located? What does it protect? Why would that
be important?

What is the purpose of the sternum and ribcage in the pig?

How does the number of lobes in the fetal pig liver compare to the number of lobes in a human
liver? What is the function of the liver in a pig?

The picture below shows a dissection of the stomach of the pig. Describe what you see on the
inside of the stomach, and then describe the functions of each of the labeled structures.

How long is the small intestine? What is the purpose of such a long length?

Each of the following systems has a list of organs that make up the system. For each
system, make a drawing that shows the position of the organs in the fetal pig, and then
briefly describe the organ’s significance to the organ system and the animal. You can
use the photos in the online dissection websites for guidance in the drawing.
Respiratory System: epiglottis, trachea, bronchial tubes, bronchioles, alveoli, lungs

Reproductive system: you should draw the reproductive system from your pig and then
find another pig of the opposite sex from another group and draw that system. Again,
use one of the online photos so that you can see what this system looks like in a
dissected pig.
Reproductive System (Female): ovaries, fallopian tubes, horns of uterus, uterus, vagina

Reproductive System (Male): testes, epididymis, vas deferens, penis

Digestive System: tongue, epiglottis, liver, gall bladder, small intestine, stomach, large
intestine, esophagus, pancreas, anus
