DQ1 Business Rules

Think about the company or organization you are using in this course and the information technology solution/project you are proposing. If your proposal is funded, what metrics would you use to demonstrate success? Today’s business stakeholders want to know that their investments are paying off in improving the business or organization in some key way. What will you measure to demonstrate that you are being successful?

Is success measured primarily by bringing a project in on time and on budget? Or should you also demonstrate metrics such as meeting key business goals? Or providing benefits to your business or your customers? Or improving satisfaction among your business leaders and your customers? No matter what metrics you decide to use, show how these metrics (these measures of success) align with key business goals.

DQ2 Career Goals in IT

Based on your experience and education to date, what kind of role do you see yourself in and/or moving into as you move forward in your IT career? What IT systems interest you the most? As part of a project team, what role do you see yourself playing? Do you want to lead, or do you want to be the member of the team that actually creates the IT solution?

What skills do you think you already have that will make you a good member of your project team for your proposal? What things do you need to learn more about in order to be an effective member of that team?

DQ1 Enterprise Architecture Challenges

Think about the company/organization you are using in this course and the information technology solution/project you are proposing. What component of TOGAF do you think has been the most difficult for your company or organization to integrate? Does your company or organization have a high-level architecture in place? Has the company or organization always done a good job of integrating new technology systems?

Your company or organization does not need to be very large before you need to develop an architecture for all of your systems. Even if this is a startup, it is highly likely that you will need different IT systems, and these systems will meet different business and customer needs.

If you have not yet had the opportunity to work for an organization with complex technology needs, think about all of the different technology systems you use on a daily basis. Which of the systems seem to be integrated, and which of the systems do not integrate very easily into your daily life? Use these experiences to think about what challenges you think an organization would face integrating technology systems:

Refer to section 1.4 (Using TOGAF) in the Modeling Enterprise Architecture With TOGAF® text. For your company what do you see as the most critical elements to incorporate into your proposed solution? What challenges will the company have to overcome?

In reference to the “Enterprise Architecture Process Maturity Levels” (Section 1.4.2) where does your company presently fall now and what level do you think it can achieve in the short range and in the long range? Explain your answer.

DQ2 Business Versus Information Systems Architectures

Think about the company/organization you are using in this course and the information technology solution/project you are proposing. Address how your proposed solution to the business problem can be addressed using the business architecture and how using Information systems can be best utilized to implement changes to your proposed company using the TOGAF framework. What ideas do you have on measuring the effectiveness of the proposed solution?
