Part 2: Reply to Rashonda Underwood

A leader whose communication has made an impact on me is my previous Adminstrator. The Administrator always encouraged employees to try another route to get the job done. Another route meaning an easier way for the employees. The Administrator has away with supporting employees. She will tell her employees to complete their job by using short cuts. When the short cuts are discovered the Administrator throws the employees under the bus to make herslef look good.

Is there a particular technique you’ve learned this week that you would like to use in the future?

Coach Joe Gibbs will share stories, advice, and hard-won insights that will equip you with the strategies to create your personal game plan. Get ready to lead your life and career with purpose.

COURSE STORY

According to Joe Gibbs, finding your purpose is one of the most important things you can do as an individual, and as a leader. Did you know that fewer than 20% of today’s business leaders have a strong sense of their own purpose? Yet those who do are among the world’s most successful leaders. Over the next 11 weeks, Coach Gibbs will demonstrate how even an “average Joe” like him was able to find success by living with purpose. He and his team will guide you to discover your own, individual, purpose by assessing your values, passions, strengths, and personality.  Then, he will give you the tools to create a simple, achievable game plan for success. As you discover your purpose you will begin to see the way it impacts everything you do as an individual and a leader.

PART 1 IDENTIFY YOUR VALUES & GROUPS OF INFLUENCE

 

In the article What Self-Awareness Really Is (And How to Cultivate It) author Tasha Eurich states that “Research suggests that when we see ourselves clearly, we are more confident and more creative. We make sounder decisions, build stronger relationships, and communicate more effectively.” This worksheet will help you do just that.

 

In the table below, each row represents a group (past or present) that has influenced your values. Examples of these groups are your family, church, sports teams, profession, groups sharing common interests, etc. Select five of these groups and list them in the first column of the table.

 

For each of the groups, identify the following:

  1. Three (3) positive behaviors that were learned and/or encouraged by the group. For example your teacher would always expect that you were on time or that you were assertive during class presentations.
  2. Three (3) values that you learned from the group. For example someone could have learned from a church group to be compassionate or to speak up when one sees injustices.

Throughout his career as a leader, Coach models the theory that discovering your purpose isn’t about trying to be a carbon copy of your favorite role model or idol, it’s about understanding what you truly value in life and why. Once you’ve taken the time to identify the values that are important to YOU and where they come from, you’ll understand more about how you interact with the world.

This assignment will help you identify how the different groups in your life have impacted your values and how understanding that impact can help you better understand yourself and your purpose.

Introduction

Part of Coach Gibb’s success as a leader is his ability to recognize people’s unique strengths and utilize them. This week you will identify your own strengths and personality by taking the DiSC assessment. Once you have your results, you will better understand how your strengths and personality can change how you work with others or the career you pursue.

 

Instructions

Step 1: Use the Everything DiSC Management Profile access code that you purchased from the bookstore to complete the assessment.

 

Step 2: Check your Strayer email account. Your DiSC Assessment results will be sent there. Download your DiSC results report and save it to your computer.

 

Step 3: Download the DiSC Assessment Reflection Worksheet and save it to your computer.

 

Step 4: Follow the directions on the worksheet to complete the assignment.

 

Step 5: Save your document as FirstInitial_LastName_JGR100_ A2.

 

Step 6: Submit your assignment using the Week 5 assignment link in Blackboard.
