LDR802 full course – july 2018

dq 1

Leadership is defined in many ways. For some leadership
is a construct within which to situate oneself on the basis of a title or a set
of behaviors or skills. Others view leadership as a calling of sorts contending
that some are literally “born leaders.” Considering the readings so
far, your own personal and professional experience, and your observations of
others, what is your picture of leadership? How does your picture differentiate
between leadership and management? How is this picture of leadership textured by
your identity and worldview?

dq 2

Research can be conducted for a variety of reasons
including searching for effective change strategies that allow followers to
perceive of someone as a leader rather than a manager or studying a specific
problem as one will encounter when preparing the doctoral dissertation. What is
research? How is scholarly research different from other kinds of research?
What are the essential components of scholarly research? Is the investigation
you propose to conduct in this scenario considered scholarly research? Why or
why not? How will scholarly research help prepare you for writing your
dissertation?

LDR 802 Week 2 Discussion 1 & 2

dq 1

Assessments can provide a window to individual behaviors,
traits, characteristics, skills, or experiences.Examine the results of the
“Leadership Trait Questionnaire” you completed, and revisit your picture of
leadership presented in the first discussion question in the course. How much
of your picture is comprised of trait theory? For whom might there be value in
understanding individual traits (whether or not one finds the results to be
personally applicable)? Why?

dq 2

Examine the results of the “Skills Inventory”you
completed and revisit your picture of leadership presented in the first
discussion question in the course. How much of your picture is comprised of
skill theory as reflected by the assessment? How do leaders and leadership
evolve over the course of time? Is developing as a leader simply a matter of
gaining a broader skillset, or are there other characteristics or experiences
that wield influence in this development?

LDR 802 Week 3 Discussion 1 & 2

dq 1

Describe possible gaps you observe within Situational
Leadership Theory. What strategies or adjustments in your own behavior,
thinking, or worldview might you consider or employ to bridge these gaps?

dq 2

Examine the results of the “Adaptive Leadership Questionnaire”
you completed, and revisit your picture of leadership presented in the first
discussion question in the course. What do the results of the questionnaire
tell you about your adaptive leadership style? Explain. How does adaptive
leadership appear in your picture of leadership? Explain.

LDR 802 Week 4 Discussion 1 & 2

dq 1

Based on your understanding of leader-member exchange
(LMX) theory, how might follower perceptions (real or perceived) of leadership
behaviors potentially cause dissention within groups? Are there benefits to
in-group/out-group dynamics? Why or why not? What adaptations might a leader
make to address in-group/out-group dynamics within a group? Support your
position.

dq 2

Examine your results from the “Path-Goal Leadership
Questionnaire.” What gaps or misalignments, if any, exist between the
results of your assessment and how you perceive yourself through a lens of
Path-Goal Leadership Theory? Explain. What strategies or adjustments in your
own behavior, thinking, or worldview might you have to consider when the
perceptions of followers are not aligned with your own perceptions of self?

LDR 802 Week 5 Discussion 1 & 2

dq 1

Revisit the picture of leadership you created in the
first module. Contrast your picture of leadership with the description of
transformational leadership in the readings. Has your picture of leadership
changed? In what ways?Consider these changes for a moment: are they based on
behavior, thinking, or worldview? How might these changes support or overturn
assumptions or perceptions of transformative leadership?

dq 2

Some have suggested one of the primary roles of those in
a leadership position is to focus on supporting the self-worth offollowers
which, in turn, leads to task performance provided to the leader. Consider ways
follower perceptions of leaders and leader perceptions of followers encourage
or discourage growth or engagement toward these ends. What strategies or
adjustments might a leader have to make within his/her own behavior, thinking,
or worldview when follower perceptions of the leader are misaligned with the
leader’s perceptions of self?

LDR 802 Week 6 Discussion 1 & 2

dq 1

Some leaders gravitate toward the tenets of servant
leadership because of perceived compatibility with the Christian worldview. Is
servant leadership the only theory of leadership that is compatible with the
Christian worldview? Explain.

dq

Some have suggested servant leadership is a paradox. Can
a personsuccessfully operate and be perceived as both a servant and a leader
simultaneously? Why or why not? Are there aspects of one’s worldview or
identity that could influence the potential for successfully operationalizing
this paradox?Explain.

LDR 802 Week 7 Discussion 1 & 2

dq 1

Examine your results from the “Leadership Archetype
Questionnaire.” What gaps or misalignments, if any, exist between the results
of your assessment and how you perceive yourself in leadership constructs?
Explain. What strategies or adjustments in your own behavior, thinking, or
worldview might you have to consider when addressing the perceptions of
followers?

dq 2

If identity and personality are positioned as a set of
personal, social, or organizational definitions, in what ways might personality
and identity present competing perceptions of leader behaviors as followers
observe leaders carrying out organizational strategies? Explain.

LDR 802 Week 8 Discussion 1 & 2

dq 1

Revisit the definition of leadership you constructed in
Module 1.Based on your experiences engaging with the course readings,
discussions, and assignments, in what ways has your definition of leadership
changed? Explain. How has your worldview influenced the nature and extent of
these changes? Explain. How do you now view yourself in the context of
organizational leadership or as a leader of others? Why is this significant?
How might the way you now view yourself in the context of organizational
leadership or as a leader of others influence your dissertation research topic?
Explain.

dq 2

Become familiar with GCU’s Doctoral DNA website at
www.gcu.edu/dna. What did you learn about your doctoral journey that you did
not know before you visited the website? How will the doctoral DNA help you in
preparation for your doctoral journey?

LDR 802 Week 2 Assignment

Details:

Synthesis is the process of creating a new idea by
analyzing multiple disparate concepts or notions to discern the common thematic
or connecting principles among them. Synthesis of research is a process learned
through time and practice. In this assignment, you will engage in the first
parts of the synthesis process: annotating and outlining.

General Requirements:

Use the following information to ensure successful
completion of the assignment:

Locate the journal articles assigned in the first two
modules of this course.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric
prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for
successful completion.

Doctoral learners are required to use APA style for their
writing assignments. The APA Style Guide is located in the Student Success
Center.

Refer to “Preparing Annotated Bibliographies,”
located in the Student Success Center, for additional guidance on completing
this assignment in the appropriate style.

You are required to submit this assignment to Turnitin.
Refer to the directions in the Student Success Center.

Directions:

Provide an annotated bibliography (750-1,000 words total)
of three of the assigned journal articles from the first two modules of this
course. Include the following for each article:

The article citation and persistent link. These are
provided for you in the topic materials to paste into the assignment and are
not included in the total word count. Be sure to verify the accuracy of the
reference formatting as these can change during the insertion process.

A written summary of the key concept(s) of the article.
Why was the study done? What was the population studied? What did the
researcher(s) conclude? What other information about this study do you believe
is unique or important to recall? Are there specific statements made by the
author that you wish to retain?

Construct an outline for a paper that will explain and
synthesize the articles you read for this assignment with at least two
additional,topically-related, empirical articles that you will select. The
paper will require identification of themes common to all of the articles as
well as a statement of the conclusions that can be drawn when the articles are
taken together as a single entity. You will be writing the paper in the next
assignment.

LDR 802 Week 4 Assignment

Details:

Synthesis is the act of creating something new from
multiple existing entities. Synthesis of research, then, is creating a new idea
from existing ideas. It is a process developed through time and practice. In
this assignment, you will apply the synthesis process to the course journal
readings and your selected readings. As you synthesize, consider how
leadershipstyle influences leadership practice and results. For example,
leadership style effects followers through the choice of public vs. private
engagement or the use of public praise vs. active coaching. In some cases, what
a leader doesnot say or do can have a significant effect on both the sense of
value and the motivation of group members.

General Requirements:

Use the following information to ensure successful
completion of the assignment:

Refer to the annotated bibliography and outline you
created in the Module 2 assignment along with the assignment feedback from your
instructor.

Locate at least two additional,topically-related,
empirical articles. Use “Empirical Research Checklist” to guide your
selection.

Directions:

Locate the annotated bibliography and outline you created
in the Module 2 assignment. Using the outline you developed, the information
from the annotated bibliography, and the feedback provided by your instructor,
write a paper (2,000-2,250 words) that synthesizes three of the articles
assigned in the first two modules of this course with the two (or more)
topically-related, empirical articles you selected. Do that by including the
following:

A statement of at least three common themes addressed in
all of the articles.

A statement of the conclusions that can be drawn when the
articles are taken together as a single entity. What is the overall message of
the group of articles? Focus specifically on the connection between leadership
style and leadership theory in areas such as individual identity, culture, and
worldview. What are the potential effects of these and other individual
leadership characteristics and style; how do they influence the methods leaders
choose to guide groups or organizations?

LDR 802 Week 8 Assignment

Details:

Successful completion of a doctoral dissertation requires
significant amounts of independent reading on the research topic. This allows
the doctoral learner/researcher to become familiar with the scope of the topic
and to identify gaps or tensions within the existing literature on the topic.
These gaps and tensions become the source of the dissertation research. In this
assignment, you will read and annotate potential sources in your dissertation
field of interest. Those demonstrating the most merit to the best of your
understanding of the topic at this time should be added to your RefWorks list
for potential inclusion in the literature review section of your dissertation.

General Requirements:

Use the following information to ensure successful
completion of the assignment:

Locate the assignment submission for “Literature
Review Resources” from RES-811. You will add to this document to begin
building a running literature review.

It is recommended that you engage in this activity
throughout the duration of this course.

Instructors will be scoring your submission based on the
number of unique sources identified in the list submitted.

Download the resource “Literature Review Resources Tool”
(if needed) and use it to complete the assignment.

Doctoral learners are required to use APA style for their
writing assignments. The APA Style Guide is located in the Student Success
Center.

dissertation field that you have not read previously.

In the “Literature Review Resources” document
that you submitted in RES-811, provide the following for each source that you
are adding to the document:

The APA-formatted citation.

A brief annotation of the key points of the source.

An indication of whether the source has been added to (Y)
or excluded from (N) your RefWorks list.

Highlight the additions to the document so your
instructor can readily identify them.
