As part of your Leadership Development Plan be sure to complete the following 2 assessments per the instructions: Leadership Development Plan:  Your Leadership Development Paper is due on 4/16.  I emailed the template that I want you to use for this paper. Make sure that you follow that template and include all of the headings from it in your paper. I cannot tell you how many times students fail to complete the Authentic Leadership and Emotional Intelligence Assessments and discuss them in the paper.  I do not want students to simply define these terms in the paper, you are to be analyzing your results from the two assessments and discuss them in the paper.  Make sure you discuss the results of the Authentic Leadership and Emotional Intelligence assessments in the paper.   NOTE:  Both of these assessments can be found in the Assessments folder which is just above the Week One folder on the Course Content page. This is your last written assignment for this course, and it is worth 25% of the course grade, so do the best you can on it.  Leadership Development Plan:  Now you need to shift your energies to begin working on your Leadership Development Plan which is due at the end of week 13.  I will email you all a template that I created for this assignment that I want you to use.  Students in another class asked for this template and they found it helpful in putting the paper together.  One of the important parts of this paper is the inclusion of headings throughout the paper.  Papers that are uploaded without headings will require revision for a reduced grade, so please don’t leave the headings out. NOTE:  I also want to bring to your attention the fact that you must make sure that you do not copy anyone else’s work when writing your leadership development paper.  You are to be writing your paper about your leadership development.  I have failed students in the past that copied another student’s paper, so don’t do it.  Make sure that you properly cite any information that comes from a source, and that you use the proper APA format.  Limit direct quotations to no more than one or two short statements. The rest of the information you wish to include must be paraphrased and cited properly. Don’t include anything in the paper that is not your own, without citing it.  Authentic Leadership (attached as a document).  Please print the attached document and complete the assessment.  Bring the completed assessment with you to residency. MBTI – A Closer Look at Personality (a web link).  Please complete the assessment and bring your MBTI Profile with you to residency.  This will be your four letter combination (ie: ENFJ or ISTP)     https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test EQi – Emotional Intelligence (attached as a document). Please print the attached document and complete the assessment.  Bring the completed assessment with you to residency. Time Management (a web link). Please complete the assessment and bring your score with you to residency.   https://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newHTE_88.htm Authentic Leadership Self-Assessment Questionnaire Attached in separate PDF! 3)  Use the Template: Make sure you write your paper using the Leadership Development Plan paper template that is attached to this email.  Papers that do not follow this template will require a revision.  Include all sections – follow the template outline so nothing is left out.  Make the paper personal about you because this is your leadership development plan, not a plan for leaders in general – but you. This paper will allow you to examine your leadership skills and develop a plan for moving forward. • Analyze your current leadership skills based on what you have learned in this course. • Identify your primary style of leadership. • Identify 2 leadership theories/styles that would be beneficial to your current/future leadership role. • Summarize your understanding of both. • Explain how you would apply both to make you a more effective leader. • Illustrate 2 positive outcomes that you would expect to occur from each. • Examine your results from the following assessments completed throughout the term: Authentic Leadership and Emotional Intelligence. • Summarize each area and identify 2 areas within each assessment you wish to further develop. • Identify how you will develop each over the next year and how it will make you a more effective leader. • Illustrate 2 positive outcomes that you would expect to occur from each. • Develop a personal leadership philosophy and support your ideas with material from this course and outside research. • Provide an example where your leadership philosophy can be applied to lead an organizational change • Your leadership philosophy does not have to be any specific leadership model we reviewed. Rather, it should represent your trajectory of leadership as it applies to your career aspirations. Consider your leadership style, personality, career path and the industry you work (or wish to work in) and determine which leadership skills will be most effective. • Submit a 6 to 8-page paper double spaced • Please provide at least six (6) scholarly references to support your paper. • All references should be used as in-text citations. • All work must be completed in 7th edition APA format. • A title page and reference page must be included. • Do not include an abstract in this paper. You are to follow the Template for Leadership Development Papers that will be shared with you in week 11. Due by Day 7 (Sunday) at 11:59 PM EST.

Leading with Emotional Intelligence This self-assessment questionnaire is designed to get you thinking about the various competencies of emotional intelligence as they apply to you. Daniel Goleman first brought ‘emotional intelligence’ to a wide audience with his 1995. He found that while qualities traditionally associated with leadership such as intelligence, toughness, determination and vision are required for success, they are insufficient. Truly effective leaders are also distinguished by a high degree of emotional intelligence, which includes: Self-awareness The ability to recognize what you are feeling, to understand your habitual emotional responses to events and to recognize how your emotions affect your behavior and performance. When you are self-aware, you see yourself as others see you, and you have a good sense of your own abilities and limitations. Managing emotions The ability to stay focused and think clearly even when experiencing powerful emotions. Being able to manage your own emotional state is essential for taking responsibility for your actions, and can save you from hasty decisions that you later regret. Motivating oneself The ability to use your deepest emotions to move and guide you towards your goals. This ability enables you to take the initiative and to persevere in the face of obstacles and setback. Empathy The ability to sense, understand and respond to what other people are feeling. Self-awareness is essential to having empathy with others. If you are not aware of your own emotions, you will not be able to read the emotions of others. Social Skill The ability to manage, influence, and inspire emotions in others. Being able to handle emotions in relationships and being able to influence and inspire others are essential foundation skills for successful teamwork and leadership. Prior to our face-to-face session this week, please complete the following assessment. Step #1 For the following questionnaire you will assess and score each of the statements. The assessment provides you a range from 1- 5. Score your assessment using a scale where: 1 indicates that the statement does NOT apply at all 3 indicates that the statement applies about half of the time 5 indicates that the statement ALWAYS applies to you Step #2 Transfer your scores to the calculation table and total your results. Keep in mind that this is not a psychometric test and the answers you give are likely to vary depending on your mood when you take it. Step #3 Consider your results and identify one or two actions you can take immediately to strengthen your emotional intelligence. How much does each statement apply to you Mark your score Read each statement and decide how strongly the statement applies to YOU. Score yourself 1 to 5 based on the following: 1 = Does NOT apply 3 = applies half the time 5 = ALWAYS applies the number that reflects how strongly the statement applies I realize immediately when I lose my temper I can reframe bad situations quickly I am always able to motivate myself to do difficult tasks I am always able to see things from the other person’s viewpoint I am an excellent listener I know when I am happy I do not wear my heart on my sleeve I am usually able to prioritize important activities at work and complete them I am excellent at empathizing with someone else’s problems 10 I never interrupt other peoples’ conversations 11 I usually recognize when I am stressed 12 Others can rarely tell what kind of mood I am in 13 I always meet deadlines 14 I can tell if someone is not happy with me 15 I am good at adapting and mixing with a variety of people 16 When I am being emotional I am aware of this 17 I rarely fly off the handle at other people 18 I never waste time 19 I can tell if a team of people are not getting along with each other 20 People are the most interesting thing in life for me 21 When I feel anxious I usually can account for the reason(s) 22 Difficult people do not annoy me 23 I do not speak or act in an evasive way 24 I can usually understand why people are being difficult towards me 25 I love to meet new people and get to know what makes them tick How much does each statement apply to you Mark your score Read each statement and decide how strongly the statement applies to YOU.
