Perform a content analysis of the main themes and ideas of the documentary.

Format

One-page, double spaced, using 12pt. font.

You may choose to do this through a title page. Title page is not included in the page-count.

If you go a little bit over the one-page limit, that is okay. Please do not go over two sentences. 

How to do

The documentary review is your chance to get creative with how you want to go about writing it. It is up to you to decide how you would want to do it. 

Here’s a sample structure on how you can do it: 

Paragraph 1:

• Summary of the documentary: major themes and ideas 

Paragraph 2:

• The implications of the main ideas/concepts on peoples
• Who’s targeted here? You can use ideas and intersections of race, gender, and class to answer this question, and give examples

Paragraph 3: 

Take a position, and critically reflect: 

• How did you find the documentary? What stood out to you? What did you agree/disagree with something? How and why? 

Please remember, in your documentary, you will encounter the phenomena of “Race”, “Racism”, “Orientalism”, “Eurocentrism”, “Class”, “Poverty”, “State”, “Capitalism”, “colonialism”, “Islam/Arab”, “Muslim women,” and “Imperialism”. 

Make sure to account for the meaning, implication, ramification of these concepts, who do they target and how are they related to each other!
