MHA Statement of Purpose My name is Rodney Chew and I hope very much to be offered this fellowship. I picked this university personally to try again after being denied the undergrade program. I want to be part of the new age of management and technology. USC has both the name and reputation to make moves ahead of the competition. If I can attend, Im positive I can contribute to bettering management and the patient experience. My experience working the bottom and managing the torrent of patients gives me sight on what an efficient team should look like. I look back on my life journey; I’m proud of the achievements I have made up to now. As far as personal and professional life is concerned, I have experienced situations that require a high degree of focus, effort, and responsibility. These experiences have led me to the management of health care and medical activities. Being both a patient and admin, I experienced two of my best reflections. I had the scariest and most enlightening experience surviving stage 4 cancer and had my spirit, and mental endurance tested. Despite the emotional breakdown and climb to regain my confidence with my education, I continued with my studies with a new drive to have a career in healthcare administration where I could apply my experience and empathy to give the patients quality care. I want to give back the moral support I received not only from my providers but also from the staff. I served in the Army Reserves over seven years as a medic and now as a patient admin. I worked on a couple of missions attending to soldiers in need of medical clearance and first aid from summer training. My most extended missions was in Fort Dix NJ and Landstuhl Regional Hospital; Germany. Both facilities tested my adaptive skills working in a large clinic rotating between tasks of front and back office. My positions were never easy, but it offered me a chance to go through the daily challenges and success related to handling a healthcare clinic, while further growing my leadership skills. I learned the activities of a collaborated integrated health processes, together with the day to day operation of 500 soldiers getting medically cleared for deployment. One of my key roles was enhancing traffic control of patients in the clinic while ensuring timely service. I used my free time interviewing with staff and health providers on what give them a smoother preparedness of new patients. My most significant contribution was my conclusion to help move soldiers through faster-using templates. I had help in making separate templates for a variety of groups and clear indications for everyone to understand. I was also responsible for keeping track of inventory and mental wellness of staff. Being in the Army’s medical admin department brought out the best me and potential. I want to attend Keck Medicine of USC Administrative Fellowship to achieve as much as I possibly can. In combination with a fantastic interest in treatment and quality care for the patient, compassion will lead me to success. Through the challenges, I will endeavor to listen, work with others, and put my knowledge from this program into practice in hopes of finding ideas to improve the quality of health service.
