# Plot bar graphs of the rainfall and evapotranspiration data in one panel and explain (150 words) the pattern. Show how you find the missing data (Feb 2002, St. 3) of rainfall. Discuss (200 words) how interception, infiltration & transpiration due to vegetation cover and topography would affect the ‘excess rainfall’ across the catchment. (6+3+9).

Note, 1500 word you will be using a spreadsheet programme or programming for the calculation and provide your results in table/s but you will need to show the step by step calculation for the month Oct. 2001 to demonstrate your understanding of the methods. The spreadsheet that will be use for the programme is Excel.

a) Plot bar graphs of the rainfall and evapotranspiration data in one panel and explain (150 words) the pattern. Show how you find the missing data (Feb 2002, St. 3) of rainfall. Discuss (200 words) how interception, infiltration & transpiration due to vegetation cover and topography would affect the ‘excess rainfall’ across the catchment. (6+3+9).

b) Formulate (50 words) the overall water balance equation for this case with a sketch, using flux and/or volume as of Oct. 2001, with various components of inflows and outflows. (18).

c) Give a simpler sketch by using the groundwater- and lake -levels data of Oct. 2001 to estimate the monthly loss or gain to/from groundwater by deploying the Darcy’s law. Give your monthly results in a table with other results. (9+9).

d) Compute the monthly water balance and explain the outcome (100 words). How do you explain the disparities in water balance (100 words) and determined the underlying uncertainties (50 words) for the imbalances? (9+9).

e) Calculate the annual volume of individual inflow components, and outflow components; identify the dominant outflow and input components; and discuss (150 words) the overall hydrology of the catchment. (3+3+3+3+6).

Remember :
1. You need to read the Qs carefully, and then draw a conceptual model, labelled with the parameters given
2. Work through the calculation line by line, explaining what you are doing, and with the correct units.
3. Take care that you are working in the correct units and interpreting the results
