Week 10

  • Role of the Researcher

    Role of the Researcher

The role of the researcher is important regardless of methodology. There is great responsibility in conducting research and handling data. Transparency is part of this ethos. Researchers or prospective researchers are responsible for ensuring that they are conducting research for the right reasons and with proper research aptitude.

When considering the role of the researcher, it is helpful to reflect on what it means to conduct research. This reflexivity allows for clarity of the researcher positionality.

Upon reflecting on the course and on research in general, James decides he is definitely going to move forward with qualitative methodology, Jordan will move on to quantitative methodology, and Tiana is going to continue to think about her role as a researcher. All three are excited about the research skills they developed and glad they took the course. They are all particularly interested in learning more about cultural competence in research and what it means to address implicit and explicit bias in research.

    TO DO LIST:

    • Discussion: Discuss the role of the researcher for both quantitative and qualitative research designs.
    • Quiz: Take the quiz.
    • What You Need to Know: Learn about the role of the researcher.
  • Discussion Overview

Each discussion in this course has a couple of questions that may ask you to apply your readings, use new skills, identify additional outside sources, reflect on how content applies to you, or give you an opportunity to talk about what interests you most. You may choose one to respond to each week or you could post your own content related to the concept for the week.

Begin practicing the use of APA style for citations and references. All information that is not your opinion or experience should have a citation to show the reader where the fact came from and then a reference at the end of the post.

    Discussion Question

This week, we wrap up with a consideration of the role of the researcher for both quantitative and qualitative research designs. Please post something to the discussion board related to the content covered this week.

Note: Do not create your post as a reply to the pinned post. Instead, use Yellowdig’s Create option to create a new post. Label your post with the hashtag for the week (#Week10) so that others can sort posts by the week’s topic.

Here are some ideas for your post to get you started:

    Response Guidelines
