Unit II Sample Assignment Dialogue: Joe: Hi Susana. H ow are you doing this morning? Susana: I am doing great! How are you? Joe: I am doing well. I had a really long drive to work this morning. It looks like traffic had to be diverted on Main Street in downtown because there is some kind of construction going on. It was a terrible delay! I sat in my car without any movement for abo ut 30 minutes! I hate traffic! It frustrates me so much! Anyway, it looks like what they are constructing there is a huge 20 -stor y building. I remember reading a story in the newspaper 5 months ago about plans for a hotel being built on Main Street in down town. The title of the piece was “Multiple Stor y Hotel to be Built by the Hilton Corporation on Main Street in Downtown.” There are no other empty lots in downtown , and , believe me , I know downtown like the palm of my hand. I used to party and eat at the restaurants there years ago when I was younger. A few weeks ago, I also remember a sign that said “Downtown Hilton hotel coming soon!” That sign was taken down , but it was in the sam e exact spot where all the construction was going on this morning! I am convinced that it is the Hilton hotel that they are building there! Anyway, I am sorry to ramble so much. How is your morning so far? Susana: Well, my morning is going well , and I am so sorry to hear about how long you were in traffic! That is terrible! Joe: Yes, yes it is. Susana: Do you mind passing the sugar? My coffee is really bitter . Joe: Sure, here you go . Susana: Thanks. I ’m excited for today. As you know, my job in this company has been a te mp job. I have been here for 10 months. I was originally not planning on staying very long , but I have come to love working here. I was a h umanities major and never saw myself working for such a large sales firm , but people are amazing here , and the work is very satisfying! Anyway, a lot of the other temps have been gossiping about which one of us will be offered the new full time position with full benefits. It will be me. I found out that out of the three times that we have been evalu ated, I have had the highest evaluation points each time. That is out of 12 other temps! Both our manager and off -site senior manager are always complimenting me on how fast and how efficiently I get things done. Just the other day, Jan, our offsite senior manager, told Stephanie about what an amazing job I had done in leading the sales team, which has now saved the company thousands of dollars! The savings will continue because the plan I proposed is very well thought out! They are going to announce who wi ll get the new full time job today. This morning, I received an ema il from Stephanie (our manager) that things were looking really good for me , and she wrote “I look forward to making the announcement!” Also, as I walked by the offices upstairs, I saw that office which was not being used for a long time and the sign said Susana Esquivel, Sales Representative! This was the sign on the door! I guess they did not count on me taking the stairs this morning, which forces me to walk by that office! Joe: That is awesome!
