Assessment 1
To receive credit you must complete the Competency Assessment.
Competency Assessment Directions
This Competency Assessment assesses the following learning competency:
CS204-1: Identify techniques for maintaining a professional presence.
CS204 Competency Assessment Module One:
In this assignment, you will reflect on someone who you believe exhibits a high level of professionalism. This person can be someone in any profession but should be one you have the opportunity to observe at length in their professional capacity. For example, it may be a coworker, supervisor, business owner, or a professional who has worked for you (doctor, lawyer, electrician, etc.). You will then identify and describe behaviors that exhibit evidence of professionalism in six key areas: specialized knowledge, competency, honesty and integrity, self-regulation, and professional appearance. Please support your biography assessment with 2-3 academic readings. This assignment requires a minimum of seven paragraphs (approximately 2-3 pages in length).
Introduction: In one paragraph (minimum of four sentences), identify the subject of your biography. Explain their profession and in what capacity you have observed their behavior (as your supervisor, client, customer, co-worker, etc.).
Specialized Knowledge: In one paragraph (minimum of four sentences), identify the specialized knowledge the subject demonstrates. Explain how this knowledge was acquired and how it is utilized in their profession.
Competency: In one paragraph (minimum of four sentences), provide examples of the subject’s work behavior that demonstrates competency in their field. Consider how problems and difficulties are handled.
Honesty and Integrity: In one paragraph (minimum of four sentences), discuss the subject’s reputation as it relates to honesty and integrity. Consider examples of fulfilling obligations and identify character traits that define his or her as a professional (fulfilling promises, punctuality, dependability, etc.)
Self-Regulation: In one paragraph (minimum of four sentences), identify examples of how the subject maintains professionalism in both calm and stressful situations. Consider the subject’s emotional intelligence and its role in interacting with colleagues, clients, and/or supervisors.
Professional Appearance: In one paragraph (minimum of four sentences), identify how the subject promotes a professional image with their dress, physical appearance, and communication skills.
Conclusion: In one paragraph (minimum of four sentences), summarize what you have learned about professionalism by reflecting on the subject of your biography. This conclusion is a reflection of your own level of professionalism. Explain which areas you currently demonstrate strong professionalism and which areas are in need of improvement. Finally, discuss how you would develop those areas identified as opportunities for improvement.
If work submitted for this outcome(s) assessment does not meet the minimum submission requirements, it will be returned without being scored.
