Please follow the rubric. A way that I approach this section is as follows:

1) I locate my top 5 articles and obtain full text copies.
2) I begin the skeleton of my APA document with the title, header, main sections (per rubric), and I fill in all my APA references.
2) I set aside time, and carefully read each article using a highlighter.
3) Then I summarize each article on my laptop in one file, with 5 different headings, one for each article.
4) Then I read what I summarized.
5) Then I let it percolate in the background for a few days (this is the background thinking part, and is critical to a well-written paper). If you write papers the night before, it will show!
6) Now I have assimilated the data, mentally connected to clinical experiences that I know about, and can sit down and write my literature review.
7) You don’t want to start with article #1 and write about that in the first paragraph, article #2 in the second paragraph. This is like eating all your carrots first, then all the peas, then all the potatoes and then the chicken.
8) You want to be using “linking words”, flowing your literature review together like a symphony, interweaving your practice observations, all the while using APA citations if the idea is not yours.
9) You can write a sentence and end with (Smith, 2014). Another construct is, According to Smith & Jones, cymbalta and anti-depressants can lead to serotonin syndrome (2014).
10) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!! Limit the number of direct quotes to one or two. In my entire doctoral thesis, I may have had 6 total quotes. This is a relatively short paper. Paraphrase where possible.

I hope this helps you with ways to approach this literature review.
