From Reconstruction through the Progressive Era (1865-1914), American society changed in many fundamental ways, however, these changes were not experienced the same way by all Americans. Compare and contrast the experience of TWO (2) of the following groups throughout that time period:

Former Slaves/Free Black Citizens
New Immigrants
Wealthy Business Owners
Urban Laborers
Women

This is both a Comparison question and a Change/Continuity over Time question. Your paper should address both skills. As you think about how to answer this prompt, I suggest you consider the following:

How did each of your groups change or remain the same over the time period from 1865-1914?
What were the circumstances that caused each group to change, achieve success, or experience hardship?
Do you think the groups had similar or significantly different experiences?
What do the groups have in common (or not)?
