  • Public Health Campaign Message

It is now time for you to develop your public health campaign message. A message is the appeal that you are trying to make to the public. There are several types of approach to message development including: rational appeal, emotional appeal, threat appeal, positive emotional appeal, and humorous appeal. Whatever appeal you choose, it must match the media outlets you will use to disseminate your message and be appropriate for your targeted audience.

Before you begin, review this week’s media titled “Cultural Relevance and Bias in Media” and analyze the images for cultural bias, irrelevant messages, stereotyping, and appropriate text for various reading levels. Keep these thoughts in mind as you begin developing your Public Heath Campaign Message.

Your message should include a description of the target audience, the preferred action or desired behavior change the audience should consider, and how this action will benefit them. Your message should integrate culturally relevant materials and appropriate text for various reading levels, and should also be captivating in order to stimulate your audience to want to change their current behavior as a result of the message.

You can include graphics, but remember there are some images you might not be able to reproduce due to copyright laws.

To develop and submit this assignment to the course discussion forum, you will be using Kaltura Media Uploader, located in the left navigation bar. To upload your media to the discussion thread, use the Kaltura Media option from the mashup tool drop-down menu. For more information about how to upload media, refer to the “Student Guide for Integrating Media in Classroom” in this week’s Resources, or “Using Kaltura” in Week 1.

Students should make every effort to complete this assignment using Kaltura. This may involve them in contacting Student Support for assistance. Students who, after this, are still unable to complete the assignment with Kaltura, may use Powerpoint instead.

    With these thoughts in mind:

By Day 5, post your message for your public health campaign in the Week 8 Discussion forum using Kaltura. Then respond to the following questions in the Week 8 discussion forum:

    • What type of appeal did you use?
    • Why did you choose this type of appeal?
    • How has your messaging integrated cultural relevance with your public health campaign message?
