Three core concepts are relevant to members of human and social services professions

Three core concepts are relevant to members of human and social services  professions: social change, leadership, and advocacy. Broadly speaking,  social change has to do with righting the wrongs in society; leadership means being a guiding force in fostering social and professional change; and advocacy  refers to sponsoring or promoting such change. Because these concepts  are intrinsic to human services professionals, it is imperative to  explore each of these core concepts more deeply, evaluate their  meanings, and consider how they are alike and different.

To prepare:

Review this week’s Learning Resources. Think about similarities and differences among the concepts of social change, leadership, and advocacy.

Post a brief explanation of two similarities and two  differences between each pair of concepts (i.e., social change vs.  leadership, social change vs. advocacy, and leadership vs. advocacy).  Provide examples to illustrate your points. Then, explain 2–3  conclusions you drew or insights you had as a result of doing the  comparison.
Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources.

Evaluation as Part of a Disaster Management Plan

Evaluation as Part of a Disaster Management Plan

Established  in 1970, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) is a nonprofit,  non-governmental health arm of the National Academy of Sciences  (chartered by President Lincoln in 1863) and has served as an unbiased  advisor to the nation on health care improvement. The IOM has a key role  to play in helping to shape the direction of health care in the United  States and abroad and works to enhance quality and add value to the  health care system. Their seminal report from 2001, Crossing the Quality Chasm: A New Health Care System for the 21st Century, describes a strategy for improving health care overall.

Historically,  heath care for mental health and substance-use conditions had a less  developed quality measurement infrastructure than general medical  practice. This characteristic was addressed in the 2006 report, Improving the Quality of Health Care for Mental and Substance-Use Conditions  and recommendations were made for quality improvement, patient-centered  services, strengthening evidence-base practices, and care coordination.
To prepare for this Discussion:

Review the Summary and the summaries for Chapters 3, 4, and 5 in the ebook, Improving the Quality of Health Care for Mental and Substance-Use Conditions, focusing on the importance of evaluation and reevaluation of plans.

Review Chapter 17 in your course text, Crisis Intervention Strategies,  focusing on systems overviews and the Principles of a Crisis  Intervention Ecosystem and then consider the value of ongoing plan  evaluation.

Review the Appendix and Chapters 5 and 9 in your course text, Crisis Management in the New Strategy Landscape, focusing on the components of an effective crisis management plan and organizational learning.

Review  the article, “Program Evaluation: The Accountability Bridge Model for  Counselors.” Consider the importance of developing effective counseling  evaluation programs and the importance of accountability for counselors.

Review  the article, “Violence Prevention After Columbine: A Survey of High  School Mental Health Professionals.” Consider how research and program  evaluation can improve the effectiveness of counseling.

Review  the article, “Collaborative Consultation and Program Evaluation,”  focusing on how effective program evaluation can inform and improve  counselor education and leadership.

Review the “Six-Aims of Health Care Systems” at http://books.nap.edu/openbook.php?record_id=11470&page=8 and consider how adherence to these guidelines should be kept in mind as you develop and evaluate crisis management plans.

Review the article, “Five Years  After Katrina: Progress Report on Recovery, Rebuilding, and Renewal” or  use a search engine to find another disaster recovery plan. Think about  areas that still need improvement. Be sure to include resources if a  different recovery plan is used.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post   a (200 Word APA Format) brief justification for three components of the Six Aims of  High-Quality Health Care that you think are most important when  evaluating a crisis management plan. Then provide a brief analysis of  the “Five Years  After Katrina: Progress Report on Recovery, Rebuilding, and Renewal ”  recovery plan or the plan you chose, and explain insights you gained.

Some businesses have started collecting personal information outside of your web clicking to create a profile of you. Do you have any personal issues with these practices? At what point could this type of data collection turn into an ethical dilemma? How about a legal issue?

Part 2

Select a significant tragic event (either domestic or global) that has occurred during the last 50 years. The interactive PowerPoint in this unit provides some ideas of historical tragic events but understand that these are just ideas. This may require some additional research to understand the ethical situations and the impact these had on affected people being able to move on with their lives. 1. Government Accountability Office

Review “Day One” in Chapter 8. The President of the U.S. gets 100 days to prove himself. However, it is unlikely Jacqueline Gibson will get that much time. Gibson needs to take charge quickly and effectively during this critical career transition period. Discuss one or two specific strategies she might follow and actions she might take.

Justify your response with one or two examples.

Review “The FDA Task Force” in Chapter 4. Compare the plight of the people who live in Plato’s cave with the uneducated people of our world

Write a one-two page reflection – minimum 250 words (usually more is necessary).

Compare the plight of the people who live in Plato’s cave with the uneducated people of our world. You may use any type of education that you think the uneducated people of our world are missing out on and how it might help them change their beliefs about certain things. Keep in mind that the people in Plato’s cave were chained there – against their will – does this have a parallel with today’s uneducated population? Should people outside the cave have made a greater effort to go inside the cave to enlighten their fellow humans?  If so, how?

HR Performance Issues And Motivation

Week 2 – Assignment

HR Performance Issues and Motivation

The relationship between the organization and its members can be greatly influenced by what motivates individuals to work. The style of leadership, job design, resources on the job, and environment can all have a significant effect on the satisfaction of employees and their performance. Performance is also influenced by individual motivations (e.g., social, recognition, financial reward, personal growth and development, and/or intrinsic satisfaction) and can equally impact the organization. There are many theories that attempt to explain the nature of motivation. Write a four- to five-page paper (excluding the title and reference pages) evaluating the relationship between motivation, job satisfaction, and work performance. Be sure to address the following:

1. Describe a performance issue which resulted from a motivational problem (what, why, who).

2. Use a content theory of motivation (e.g., Maslow, Alderfer, Herzberg, or McClelland) or a process theory (i.e., Adams, Locke, or Heider and Kelley) to explain how the issue creates a performance problem for the organization.

3. Use the theory of motivation you selected to describe an intervention/action to change the motivation/behavior and correct the performance problem.

Your paper must use a minimum of three scholarly sources, in addition to the textbook. Your paper must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Week 5 – Final Paper

Final Paper
The complexity and volume of patient data makes clinical decision support very challenging for health care providers.
