M1 Assignment 2 Discussion: Concepts Of Truth

Before 1972, scientists believed that the rings of Saturn were composed of gasses or dust; on tests, any student who claimed that Saturn’s rings were composed of solids was incorrect because the true answer was that the rings were a gas. Later scientific investigation has shown that the rings are, in fact, composed of solid matter. Did the truth change? Should these students retroactively be given credit? Which group of students originally knew the correct answer?

Similarly, in the 1950s and 1960s physicians knew that stress caused ulcers, although we now know that bacteria causes ulcers. What does this imply for our definition of the words truth and knowing?

Prepare a 3- to 5-paragraph response and submit it to the Discussion Area by the due date assigned.

Ashford 4: – Week 3 – Assignment

Rough Draft of the Final Lab Report

Carefully review the Grading Rubric that will be used to evaluate your assignment before you begin.
You are required to develop a rough draft for your Final Lab Report, which covers all three experiments for “Lab 2: Water Quality and Contamination.” To begin, carefully review the instructions for your Final Lab Report assignment located within Week Five. Next, download the Rough Draft of the Final Lab Report Template and utilize this form to ensure proper formatting and inclusion of all required material. Using the template will ensure proper formatting. You must use at least four scholarly sources and your lab manual to support your points. The rough draft must be three to five pages in length (excluding title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style. For information regarding APA samples and tutorials, visit the Ashford Writing Center, located within the Learning Resources tab on the left navigation toolbar.
The Rough Draft of the Final Lab Report must contain the following seven sections in this order:

  1. Title Page – This page must include the title of your      report, your name, course name, instructor, and date submitted.
  2. Introduction – This section should discuss why the      experiment was conducted. At a minimum, it should contain three      paragraphs. One paragraph must cover background information of similar      studies that have already been done in the area. This is accomplished by      citing existing literature from similar experiments and explaining their      results. A second paragraph should provide an objective or a reason why      the experiment is being done. Why do we want to know the answer to the      question we are asking? A third paragraph should provide a hypothesis for      each of the three experiments conducted.
  3. Materials and Methods – This section should provide a      detailed description of the materials used in your experiment and how they      were used. A step-by-step rundown of your experiment is necessary;      however, it should be done in paragraph form, not in a list format. The      description should be exact enough to allow for someone reading the report      to replicate the experiment, but it should be in your own words and not      simply copied and pasted from the lab manual.
  4. Results – This section should include the data and      observations from the experiment. All tables and graphs should be present      in this section. Additionally, there should be at least one paragraph      explaining the data in paragraph form. There should be no personal opinions or discussion beyond the results of      your experiments located within this section.
  5. Discussion – This section should interpret or explain      the meaning of your data and provide conclusions. At least three      paragraphs should be outlined here. First, a paragraph should be present      that addresses whether the hypotheses were confirmed or denied and how you      know this. Second, you are to discuss the meaning of your findings in this      area utilizing scholarly sources to put the paper into context. For example,      how do your results compare with the findings of similar studies? Also,      you should discuss any future questions arising from your results and how      you might test them. Finally, you should discuss if there are any outside      factors (i.e., temperature, contaminants, time of day) that affected your      results. If so, how could you control for these in the future?
  6. Conclusions – This section should provide a brief      summary of your work.
  7. References – Provide a list of at least four scholarly      sources and your lab manual that will be used in the Final Lab Report.      Format your references according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford      Writing Center.

Note: An abstract must be included in the Final Lab Report. However, the abstract should not be included in the rough draft as it is to be written last after the entire paper is fully written. Do not forget this in your Final Lab Report.

Product Liability

After viewing the Chinese Imports & Food Safety (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. video, consider whether U.S. retailers that utilize products or raw ingredients that are imported from China and are poorly regulated should be liable in tort for injuries to consumers who are harmed by those products. Answer parts a and b of the prompt.

  1. For this part of the prompt, answer one of the      following points:
    • If U.S. companies should not be liable, then they       could be legally exempt from tort liability. Discuss the consequences of       such a policy to U.S. consumers.
    • If the U.S. companies should be liable, then those       companies would not be legally exempt from tort liability. Discuss the       consequences of such a policy to U.S. businesses.
  2. Regardless of your response to part a, assume that U.S.      retailers do have legal liability for defective products. What steps could      U.S. retailers and manufacturers take when using products imported from      China that would minimize their liability exposure? For example, they      could warn consumers about the potential, though speculative, dangers when      using products comprised of poorly regulated ingredients or components.      Given your strategy, what challenges would exist for U.S. businesses that      implemented your strategy?

Guided Response: Respond to at least two of your fellow students’ posts in a substantive manner. Some ways to do this include the following, though you may choose a different approach, providing your response is substantive:

Discuss the challenges that would exist if your employer (or a fictitious employer) were to adopt your classmate’s strategy.

My School and Its Culture

Ashford 2: – Week 1 – Assignment

My School and Its Culture
As illustrated in the introduction discussion this week, each of you has experienced a unique journey through a variety of educational experiences throughout your lives. Naturally, some of these experiences will have contributed to your personal development and identity with greater impact than others. Furthermore, many in-school variables have affected your educational journey. The decisions made by those teachers and school staff defining your in-school learning experiences were derived from their philosophies of education and their understanding of educational theory. The prevailing educational theories informing your teachers could likely be defined along the continuum of major theories that include behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism. Refer to the Learning Theories resources provided in the Instructor Guidance for a concise review of these major theories. Keep in mind also that prominent educational philosophies influencing professional educators have included perennialism, essentialism, progressivism and/or reconstructionism. Each of those theories is described in within the Instructor Guidance material for Week One.
After reading selected material from Chapters 7, 8 and 11 of the course text, you should now be familiar with the research that describes the relationship between social class and school success (Chapter 7), the impact of diversity on learning (Chapter 8), and the importance of family involvement (Chapter 11). You will use this knowledge as a foundation for completing this assignment.
For this assignment, describe a school-related experience that you believe influenced your identity either positively or negatively or both. You will analyze this experience and reflect on all the factors that might have shaped it, and the different ways these experiences shaped you. This analysis will include an examination of factors outside of school (such as social class, socioeconomic status, diversity, family issues, etc.) as well as factors inside of school (theories and philosophies) that you believe influenced classroom decisions. This type of analysis provides a powerful introduction to learning more about the relationship between culture, education and the teachers’ decisions in the classroom.
You analysis should include the following:
Content Expectations

  • School Experience (1 point): Describe your selected school experience that      influenced your personal identity development.
  • School Characteristics and      Cultural Dimensions (1 point):      Describe the school where your experience took place including (a) school      characteristics, (b) student population characteristics, (c)      socio-economic background of the families affiliated with the school, and      (d) the family structures represented in the school.
  • Educational Philosophy Analysis      (1.5 points): Describe the educational      philosophies that defined the school’s structure, purpose, operation, and      how the local culture may have influenced these philosophies.
  • Learning Theory Analysis (1.5      points): Describe the type(s) of      learning theories you believe your teachers used to help them design the      instructional experiences including (a) why or how you believe your      teachers demonstrated applications of behaviorism, cognitivism, and/or      constructivism and (b) how you feel these theories affected the      instructional decisions the teachers made. Refer to the Learning Theories      resources provided in the Instructor Guidance for a concise review of      these major theories.
  • Personal Influences (1 point): Reflect on the influence that your family’s “funds of      knowledge” and social capital had on your ability to succeed in your      school; address your success in the following three areas: academic      success, social success, and emotional success.
  • Application (1 point): Explain, using specific examples, how educators could      use information about culture and individual student identities to make      effective instructional decisions.

Written Communication Expectations

  • Page Requirement (.25 points): Submit three to five pages, not including the title      and reference pages.
  • APA Formatting (.25 points): Format your paper according to APA style as outlined      in the Ashford Writing Center.
  • Syntax and Mechanics (.25      points): Display meticulous      comprehension and organization of syntax and mechanics, such as spelling      and grammar.
  • Source Requirement (.25      points): Reference at least two      scholarly sources in addition to the Wardle (2013) textbook to provide      compelling evidence to support ideas. All sources on the references page      need to be used and cited correctly within the body of the assignment.

It is strongly recommended that you review this week’s Instructor Guidance for additional information about completing this assignment! Contact your instructor for clarifications about this or any assessment in the course before the due date using the “Ask Your Instructor” forum. Then, also using the Grading Rubric as a guide for your performance on this assignment, construct your assignment to meet each of the content and written communication expectations.
Next Steps: Review and Submit the Assignment

Review your assignment with the Grading Rubric to be sure you have achieved the distinguished levels of performance for each criterion. Next, submit the assignment for evaluation no later than Day 7.

Identify the audience for your training program and provide a brief outline of the topics it will address.

Ashford 4: – Week 3 – Assignment

Senior Project Progress Report
Complete a two to three page (excluding title and reference pages) report on the progress you have made to date on your Senior Project.  You must use a minimum of three scholarly sources. Your report, and any citations used, must be in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Your progress report should cover the following:

  1. Topic:      Identify the topic that you have selected for your Senior Project and      provide a brief explanation for why you have chosen to address this topic      *This may be copied from the Week Two assignment if evaluated as      Distinguished Performance. Otherwise, make adjustments per Week Two      feedback.
  2. Organization Specific Rationale: Provide a brief overview of the health care      organization that you have selected for your Senior Project including a      summary of the challenges and/or opportunities impacting the balance      between health care costs, quality, and access to services that the      organization is currently facing. The challenges and/or opportunities      should directly relate to your rationale for why you have chosen your      topic (i.e., training program) to help the organizational leaders manage      this challenge/opportunity. Challenges and/or opportunities should be      grounded in the research (e.g., web-based resources, electronic articles,      or personal interviews). The more informed you are, the better prepared      you will be to complete your Senior Project.
  3. Training:      Identify the audience for your training program and provide a brief      outline of the topics it will address. Include a minimum of three to five      learning outcomes that are targeted for your identified audience.      Specifically, what do you want your audience to know and/or be able to do      after they have completed training? How does this training program align      with the overall challenges and/or opportunities that the organization is      facing? Overall, how will the training program benefit the organization?

Describe the kinds of questions McGraw-Hill might have asked as part of determining the feasibility of the Primis idea

Week 6 – Final Paper

Final Paper

The final paper will demonstrate the students’ ability to assimilate, synthesize, and apply the concepts of management information systems; specifically systems analysis, system design, system development, and systems maintenance. The video case is a factual presentation of McGraw-Hill/Irwin’s PRIMIS Information System.
Focus of the Final Paper
You will need to review the case questions prior to watching McGraw-Hill MIS Video Case: Primis. You may need to install QuickTime or another media player to watch the videos.
You must use critical thinking skills to assimilate and synthesize course concepts that apply to the case questions below. Specific concepts and vocabulary from the course must be integrated into your responses, demonstrating a clear understanding of management information systems vernacular as it applies to each case question.
Final Paper Structure
Analysis

  1. Describe the kinds of questions McGraw-Hill might have      asked as part of determining the feasibility of the Primis idea. Be sure      to address the needs of the organization, end users (sales      representatives, faculty, and students), IT specialists, and the groups      involved in producing the finished custom books.
  2. Assess the likelihood of implementing the system given      the information the team had at the time. Justify why, or why not.

Design

  1. Process engineering is the design of business processes      to achieve competitive advantage in cost, quality, speed, and service.
  2. Evaluate which advantages were driving the development      of the Primis system for McGraw-Hill.
  3. Business customers must perceive that products/services      are solutions to their problems. Describe how the Primis system design      kept this objective in mind.

System Development

  1. Assess whether the prototyping would have helped the      Primis team. Justify why or why not.
  2. Conclude why it was important to consider the      relationship of Primis to back-end systems at McGraw-Hill.
  3. If you were the project manager for Primis, explain and      defend what would you have done differently.

Maintenance

  1. Part of system maintenance is managing the growing      volume of content in the Primis database. Explain the criteria you might      use for determining content to add to the database. Since many print      textbooks are revised every few years, describe how this process would affect      contents in the Primis database.

Ashford 6: – Week 5 – Assignment

Supporting Learning and Leadership with Technology
Select a prior MATLT activity that demonstrates attainment of Program Learning Outcome 8 “demonstrate the ability to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of learning and leadership”. Redesign the activity using instructional design principles and theory.  Be sure to include an explanation of which principles and theory you chose and why. Additionally, include a discussion of any design and implementation challenges experienced during the redesign process.
Review the Rubric for this Assignment to understand the criteria on which you will be evaluated. Note that because the length of your redesigned activities will likely vary greatly, no specific length requirement exists for this assignment. However, as a general guideline, the explanation of the principles and theories will be about half a page and the reflection on design and implementation challenges would reasonably be half a page.
Carefully review the Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.
