Assessment Description
This coursework is worth 50% of the total mark (qualifying mark 30%). Please refer to the Module Defmitjon Formfor
further details. and has two questions shown as Part A & Part 8:
1. PART A
Students are required to carry out capability study on one dimension of the parts provided using two control charts i.e.,
Shewart and CUSUM. There are 10 batches in total with 5 made on one day and the remaining 5 made on a different
day. Each student must assess a different dimension on the parts and must record his/her own
measurements. Students must submit an individual report detailing their experience along with the objectives of the
assessment. The report should contain the following:
(i) Shewart and CUSUM control charts
(ii) Suitability and discussion of control chart
findings
(iii) Assessment of process capability and its
significance
(iv) Discussion of measuring system accuracy
and its impact

Discuss how capability studies fit into quality management systems and quality assurance with due reference to
quality theories and relevant standards. Discussion must include the significance of the purchase order and capability
studies of the new and existing machines for the manufacture of a product of your choice. It is important to clearly
define a product and explain the usage of capability studies to increase production.
Intended learning outcomes for the assessment
This summative assignment will provide students the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience on:
• Recording measurements in a reliable manner.
• Constructing different control charts and analysing them.
• Carry out capability studies based on control chart findings.
• Understanding the importance of a purchase order for the manufacture of a particular product.
• Comprehend the significance of quality standards and theories to make sound decisions in real world
scenarios.
