7.4 TD: Handout

Carefully adhering to your 7.4 Assignment Guidelines, in 220- 225 words discuss the following statements:

  1. “Scripture reveals that ‘cleaving’ and ‘one flesh’ are not the same. In fact, neither one is absolutely necessary in order for the other to be obtained—but both are essential in a healthy Biblical marriage.”
  2. How can these statements be applied to marriage and family counseling today?

UNIT SEVEN INTRODUCTION

The Unit 7 Handout stresses that the biblical concept of “cleaving” is not the same as becoming “one flesh.” What God Has Joined Together gives a biblical foundation for showing that cleaving is an emotional and mental process and not a sexual relationship. Men Are Like Waffles; Women Are Like Spaghetti emphasizes that cleaving is necessary in order to properly prepare for a satisfying physical relationship. The Family introduces the concept of a unity that retains differentiation.
