Task 2: LO2 Understand how health and social care services and systems support individuals with specific needs. (520 words)

Scenario

What you must do:

You are due to attend The Lancaster disability studies conferences on 6th – 8th September 2016 which will bring together researchers, practitioners, policy makers and activists from around the world, to share and debate research, ideas and developments in disability studies. You have been asked by the local authority having seen your information pack to contribute to a plenary session at the conference. For this plenary session, you will need to demonstrate to the attendees how health and social care services and systems support individuals with specific needs.

You will produce a brochure for the plenary session that covers the following.

2.1 You must analyse the different care needs of individuals with specific needs. (Coherent, logical development of principles/concepts should be stated when analysing physical needs, social needs, emotional needs, language needs, intellectual needs, spiritual needs).

2.2 In the second part of your brochure you should explain current system for supporting individuals with specific needs.

2.3 You should evaluate the services available in a chosen locality for individuals with specific needs. (Conclusions have been arrived through synthesis of ideas and are justified when evaluating the services available in a specific locality for individuals with specific needs).

Task 3: LO3 Understand approaches and intervention strategies that support individuals with specific needs. (800 words)

Scenario

What you must do:

You have been asked to write an essay for Federation for Adults and Children with Special Needs in partnership with the National Autistic Society to support Partnership for employees to strengthen public sector engagement with disabled people. This guidance for organisations will improve the engagement process as well as demonstrate examples of good practice from which lessons can be learned or replicated. Furthermore, it will allow for understanding of approaches and intervention strategies that support individuals with both autism and other specific needs.

3.1 The first section of the guidance you must explain the approaches and interventions available to support individuals with specific needs. (Use complex problems with more than one variable have been explored explaining and giving specific approaches and interventions available to support individuals such as Adults and Children with Special Needs).

3.2 In the next section of the guidance you must evaluate the effectiveness of intervention strategies used for service users with specific needs.

3.3 In the guidance discuss the potential impact of emerging developments on support with specific needs. (Substantial activities, projects or investigations should be planned managed and organised and your essay should demonstrate that you have looked at both sides of the arguments and give examples how emerging developments have potentially impacted the support provided to service users with specific needs).

Tasks 4: LO4 Understand strategies for coping with challenging behaviours associated with specific needs. (Up to 520 words)

What to do:

Create a fact sheet that addresses strategies for coping with challenging behaviour associated with specific needs. A fact sheet is a single sheet of paper listing important facts about an issue. Fact sheets can be laid out just about any way you’d like as long as they incorporate the main facts you want to include. In the fact sheet you should address the following.

4.1 In the first section of the fact sheet you will explain different concepts of challenging behaviour. (Use complex problems with more than one variable have been explored giving different concepts of challenging behaviour).

4.2 The second section you must describe the potential impact of challenging behaviour on health and social care organisations.

4.3 Finally, in the third section of the fact sheet, you must analyse strategies for working with challenging behaviours associated with specific needs. (Your evidence should demonstrate strategies that have been generated and relating those strategies to working with challenging behaviour associated with specific needs).

(About 85 words) Include in your fact sheet a reflective analysis on how communication can also impact challenging behaviours positively/negatively.
