beliefs about yourself alter you personality, psychology homework help

This is the discussion need to be reply. That could be between 100 to 150 words.

Mary Perry

I do think beliefs about yourself alter you personality. The way you perceive yourself either provides you a strong personality or a weak one. I had a weak one because I did criticize myself very harshly. I thought I could never be loved because I had Type 1 Diabetes and a severe uncontrolled case of it. I was extremely skinny, lethargic, and constantly having to use the bathroom. It is a chronic disease and affected my life very much growing up. I was constantly hospitalized and lost too much weight. I thought no one would ever want to carry this burden along with me for the rest of their life. I truly thought I was unlovable and no one would want to keep up with my doctors appointments and bills. As time went on I did find the perfect man in my life and am now engaged and cannot wait for a bright future with him. Looking back it was a stupid thought I had in my head thinking I would never find someone who would want to love me for what I had. Being able to accept who I am now and with what I have has changed me as a person and my behavior. My emotions are more controlled and my behavior is a lot different than back then. I am a happier person in life and maturing has really helped me cope. I am 22 now and I have come so far with a different personality and a brighter look on life. I do believe this belief change did have a great effect on my general personality as I had stated before. I believe that when I was younger I wanted to be like the other kids and be able to eat whatever I wanted and not spend my weekends in the hospital. I wanted to be a normal kid, but growing up I could see now that I can do those things and be like other adults. Diabetes doesn’t control who I am as a person or control my life I control it.

  • Choose a character from a book, television show, or movie who is portrayed as suffering from a psychological disorder.  [Examples: “My Mad Fat Diary”, “The Hunger Games Series”, “Forest Gump”, “Rain Man” (Please do not use these.)]
  • Briefly describe the character and his(her) behaviors that lead you to believe they have a disorder.
  • Read “Conceptualizing Psychiatric Disorders Using ‘Four D’s’ of Diagnoses”.  Note that many professionals utilize the four “Ds” to determine abnormality:
    • Deviance:  Are the behaviors/feelings deviant?
    • Dysfunction:  Do the behaviors/feelings interfere with the individual’s ability to function in daily life?
    • Distress:  Does the individual experience distress due to the behaviors/feelings?
    • Danger:  Are the behaviors/feelings harmful to the individual or those around him/her?
    • (Some consider a fifth “D”, Duration.).
  • Appraise your character and his/her behaviors/feelings for each of the above “Ds”.  Are variations in his/her behaviors/feelings significant enough to constitute a psychological disorder, in your opinion?
  • Review the textbook.  After determining a diagnosis that—in your opinion—fits the character’s behaviors/feelings (which may or may not be indicated in the book, television show, or movie), locate additional information about this disorder in theDSM-5.  Briefly, describe the disorder that you think fits your character and explain why.
  • ReviewResearch-Supported Psychological Treatments.  Discuss possible treatment options for this particular disorder.
  • Explain how cultural and social diversity might influence perception and experience of this disorder.
  • Remember to use your own academic voice and apply in-text citations appropriately throughout your post.

behaviors that are associated with mental disorders

behaviors that are associated with mental disorders

Assignment 3: Case Study Analysis I

The first step in understanding the behaviors that are associated with mental disorders is to be able to differentiate the potential symptoms of a mental disorder from the everyday fluctuations or behaviors that we observe. Read the following brief case histories.

Case Study 1:

Bob is a very intelligent, 25-year-old member of a religious organization based on Buddhism. Bob’s working for this organization has caused considerable conflict between him and his parents, who are devout Baptists. Recently, Bob has experienced acute spells of nausea and fatigue that have prevented him from working and have forced him to return home to live with his parents. Various medical tests are being conducted, but as yet, no physical causes for his problems have been found.

Case Study 2:

Mary is a 30-year-old musician who is very dedicated and successful in her work as a teacher in a local high school and as a part-time member of local musical groups. Since her marriage five years ago, which ended in divorce after six months, she has dated very few men. She often worries about her time running out for establishing a good relationship with a man, getting married, and raising a family. Her friends tell her she gets way too anxious around men, and, in general, she needs to relax a little.

Case Study 3:

Jim was vice-president of the freshmen class at a local college and played on the school’s football team. Later that year, he dropped out of these activities and gradually became more and more withdrawn from friends and family. Neglecting to shave and shower, he began to look dirty and unhealthy. He spent most of his time alone in his room and sometimes complained to his parents that he heard voices in the curtains and in the closet. In his sophomore year, he dropped out of school entirely. With increasing anxiety and agitation, he began to worry that the Nazis were plotting to kill his family and kidnap him.

Case Study 4:

Larry, a 37-year-old gay man, has lived for three years with his partner, whom he met in graduate school. Larry works as a psychologist in a large hospital. Although competent in his work, he often feels strained by the pressures of his demanding position. An added source of tension on the job is his not being out with his co-workers, and, thus, he is not able to confide in anyone or talk about his private life. Most of his leisure activities are with good friends who are also part of the local gay community.

  1. For each case, identify the individual’s behaviors that seem to be problematic for the patient.
  2. For each case study, explain from the biological, psychological, or socio-cultural perspective your decision-making process for identifying the behaviors that may or may not have been associated with the symptoms of a mental disorder.
  3. Based on your course and text readings, provide an explanation why you would consider some of these cases to exhibit behaviors that may be associated with problems that occur in everyday life, while others could be associated with symptoms of a mental disorder.

Do not attempt to label or diagnose the mental disorder; there is not enough information in the case study. Just look at the behaviors presented.

Behaviors in Youth Sport

Behaviors in Youth Sport

 Behaviors in Youth Sport

Part 1:

Young athletes participate in and discontinue sport programs for a variety of reasons. Stress can also significantly affect a young athlete’s sport participation. Addictive behaviors can influence both participation and performance. In this activity, you’ll reflect on your childhood youth sport experiences and determine what factors played a role in your decision to participate in and discontinue participation in a youth sport program.

Part 2:

Stress and addictive behaviors can have a significant impact on youth sport participants. To help them cope with stress and/or addictive behaviors, you can adapt and use several anxiety reduction techniques that are relevant for children. Identify and explain three.

Part 3:

In frustrating sport situations, young people are particularly influenced by adult behavior.

Why do some people act aggressively and others do not?

What socially learned cues in sport signal the appropriateness of being aggressive?

Identify and explain two methods you would use to help young athletes control their emotions?P

Constructivism in relationship to learning psychology

Behaviorism, Cognitivism, and Constructivism in relationship to learning psychology

  • Please read the instructions carefully. I am willing to tip.
  • Over the past weeks, you have been introduced to Behaviorism, Cognitivism, and Constructivism in relationship to learning psychology. To further expand your knowledge and understanding of Constructivism and its theoretical components/principles, in this paper you will research and write about one of the prominent constructivists listed below based on the first letter of your last name. Please look over the list to find the constructivist who corresponds with the first letter of your last name:
  • Last name begins with P-T: Jean Piaget (1896–1980)

To successfully accomplish this assignment:

First, create the following headings and subheadings in your paper to indicate the organization of your information.  (Note: The bullets will not be included in your paper and are included here only for organizational purposes.)

  • Introduction- The introduction is based on the principle of introducing the topic of the paper. A good introduction explains what you will be addressing. In this paper it will specifically, in a broad way, clarify each area (below) that you will be discussing. Often, writer’s write this last to make sure nothing is forgotten.
  • Researcher’s Biography/Background (Vygotsky’s Biography)– Under this heading, you will provide the important historical perspectives of your subject’s life and work and how these influenced his/her work in this field. Information on the subject’s personal and professional background should be logically presented.
  • Researcher’s Theoretical Perspectives- Under this heading, you will describe the theoretical perspectives and other major concepts pioneered or promoted by your subject.
    • Experiments and Findings-Under this subheading you will provide a thorough summary of at least two empirical research projects your subject performed including the empirical findings of the research.
    • Historical Trends- Under this subheading, you will provide information on the trends which lead to your subject’s line of research.
    • Notable Characteristics- Under this subheading you will provide information about the cognitivist and his/her line of research and how it exemplifies the cognitivist constructs.
  • Conclusion– This can be hard to write because the writer thinks everything has already been said. However, this is where the writer leaves behind an impression about the writer and what he/she wrote about. The reader often remembers the last part of what has been read, so consider how you want someone reading your paper to remember what you wrote.

Next, apply basic research methods in psychology to your paper by accessing the Ashford University Library and researching at least three appropriate peer-reviewed articles about your assigned researcher. Write key words under each heading to help you remember what you have read. Be sure to use these sources to support your statements within the paper. Cite your sources according to APA style, but do not directly quote them within your paper. If you have apprehensions about synthesizing the material you read and plan on including in your writing, please click here for additional assistance.

Now you will put it all together, by using the key words to help you write about what you learned. Try not to, at first, use the sources directly. Try to remember what you can and just write about what you learned to avoid plagiarism issues.

After you have accomplished this, go back to your sources adding in the citations of where you learned the information and clarifying points. Read your paper aloud to make sure it makes sense. It is not unusual for writing a paper that our mind will actually fill in the blanks of missed information, but the reader cannot do this, so reading it aloud is helpful.

Make corrections and continue to edit and clean up your paper.

Add your references. Make sure what you include is applied within your paper as well. Do not use quotes if possible

P.S.

You must use in-text citations. Also, I imagine that it would be impossible to use the Ashford University Library due to no access to it. So overlook that part if you have to and use the credible sources you can use.

Technological Trends in Behavioral Health

behavioral health services.

Assignment 3: Technological Trends in Behavioral Health

Technological advancements in the healthcare industry are usually associated with improvements in diagnostic machines such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) scans. However, in behavioral health, one of the more important technological advancements is in the documentation and reporting systems used in the treatment of patients diagnosed with chronic mental illness. Other information technology advancements such as the use of the Internet have also had a significant impact on behavioral health services. Read the following article from the EBSCO host database:

  • Ahr, P. (2005, January). Community mental health principles: A 40-year       case study.Behavioral Health Management, 25(1), 15–17.

There are several topics mentioned in this article that have had or may have an impact on behavioral health services.

Choose an issue mentioned in this article and research at least two other articles (not more than two years old) that discuss these issues as they pertain to behavioral health services. Use the following questions as a guide when developing your essay on the issue:

  • Explain in detail the issue as it pertains to healthcare in general and behavioral health services in specific.
  • What was the impact on behavioral health services?
  • What are some of the financial, privacy, or ethical issues that you perceived from this issue?

Submit your synopsis in a two- to three-page Microsoft Word document to the

Behavioral Determinants

Behavioral Determinants

Behavior patterns tend to distinguish one cultural group from every other group. These cultural differences make each new country we visit a little different from the all the others. Cultural behaviors are those behaviors that everyone in a particular group of people has in common with each other. They also set the group apart from every other group. However, because of universal behavior, not everything about people in a new culture is going to be different; some of what is already known about human behavior will apply in a host country. For example, different cultural groups employ different utensils to take a meal, but all people chew their food. The use of a fork as opposed to chop sticks or fingers is a cultural behavior. Chewing food is universal. These universal health determinants are common to all people groups. On the other hand, personal behavioral attributes differentiate us from everyone else, including those people in our group. Therefore, not everything we learn about a host culture will apply in equal measure, or at all, to every individual in that culture.

Think about different cultures or subcultures to which you have been exposed. Think of five behaviors which you believe to be cultural. (Eating utensils are not acceptable answers.) Identify the culture to which the behavior belongs and explain your assignment of the behavior to the cultural category.
