Electronic waste (e-waste) has become a serious problem for many communities and for many agencies tasked with the proper disposal of this type of material. Not all e-waste is useless or dangerous waste because much of the electronic equipment or parts that have been discarded can be safely reused or recycled. Nevertheless, since most e-waste is complex electronic devices made from a wide variety of materials the risks these types of materials pose to humans or our natural environment are growing. Simultaneously, the policy responses to these threats are not keeping up with the dynamic management challenges being created today. Accordingly, local, state, and federal policymakers face a plethora of dilemmas when trying to create effective policies regulating the proper disposal of hazardous e-waste.Consider the challenges of safely disposing hazardous e-waste. As noted above and in the readings and videos, e-waste is one of the fastest growing waste management quandaries facing policymakers at every level of government and business. Describe how local, state, and federal policies currently address this issue? Explain two strengths and two weaknesses of local, state, and/or federal hazardous e-waste disposal policies?
