PART 1

Crime and socioeconomic status

The relationship between crime and socioeconomic status has been firmly established through research. However, there is much debate regarding how socioeconomic status is defined. Some believe it is solely based on income while others examine other factors that should be considered in defining this status.

Conduct research on this relationship and factors that influence the status. Your writing assignment should provide your supported opinion on what should be included in determining socioeconomic status. For example, should education levels and/or occupation be considered in this relationship?

Next, consider the research on the correlation between homelessness and mental illness. Summarize your findings regarding this correlation.

Lastly, reflect on the relationship of crime and socioeconomic status and homelessness and mental illness. How will this knowledge influence your approach to these populations as a law enforcement officer?

This assignment should be approximately 2-3 pages and should incorporate at least three scholarly resources. The assignment should meet APA formatting guidelines.

Part 2

First, review the feedback provided by your instructor on your module 02, 03, and 04 submissions. Conduct the additional research recommended, include the additional discussion suggested, and incorporate any other additional feedback provided.

Then, you will critically evaluate the role corrections plays in prevention and response to the type of abuse you chose in Module 02. First, conduct scholarly research to examine the role corrections has in preventing the type of abuse. Provide a thorough summary supported with research of at least two prevention efforts used by corrections. Keep in mind this could be efforts to reduce recidivism. Next, provide a thorough summary of the correctional system’s response to the type of abuse. What role does corrections play in responding to this type of abuse? What policy recommendations or statutory requirements are used to guide the response? These could be treatment options as well as other sanctions. Finally, conduct research to expose the challenges of these prevention efforts and responses. Incorporate at least one challenge to a prevention effort discussed and one challenge of response. This section of the assignment should meet APA formatting guidelines and incorporate at least two scholarly sources (from the library databases). Here is the section of the outline provided in the Project Introduction of Module 01 that provides a breakdown of what should be included in this segment:
