Statistical analysis software is a valuable tool that helps researchers perform the complex calculations. However, to use such a tool effectively, the study must be well designed. The social worker must understand all the relationships involved in the study. He or she must understand the study’s purpose and select the most appropriate design. The social worker must correctly represent the relationship being examined and the variables involved. Finally, he or she must enter those variables correctly into the software package. This assignment will allow you to analyze in detail the decisions made in the “Social Work Research: Chi Square” case study (ATTACHED) and the relationship between study design and statistical analysis. Assume that the data has been entered into SPSS and you’ve been given the output of the chi-square results. (See Week 4 Handout: Chi-Square findings) (ATTACHED).

Submit a 1-page paper of the following:

• 1. An analysis of the relationship between study design and statistical analysis used in the case study that includes:
  • A. An explanation of why you think that the agency created a plan to evaluate the program
  • B. An explanation of why the social work agency in the case study chose to use a chi square statistic to evaluate whether there is a difference between those who participated in the program and those who did not (Hint: Think about the level of measurement of the variables)
  • C. description of the research design in terms of observations (O) and interventions (X) for each group.
  • D. Interpret the chi-square output data. What do the data say about the program?

Part 1: Reference summaries

What is your project topic? Describe your definition of technology as it relates to your project topic. In other words, what aspect of technology will you be examining in relation to your topic? (1-2 paragraphs)

What aspect of the social sciences impact or inform your topic? Explain how this topic informs what you are examining. (1-2 paragraphs)

Create a reference list of at least 5 scholarly sources that you will use in your presentation. References should use APA format (6th edition).

For this part of the applied project, you will use resources such as Google Scholar to:

· Locate 5 scholarly or credible sources on your chosen topic

· Locate at least 1 article that addresses your topic from the perspective of a different country or culture

· Locate at least 1 article related to policy (i.e. what policies exist, are being considered, or are needed to address your issue)

What is a scholarly or credible source? For this project rely on sources that have credibility. Appropriate sources would be articles written by experts in the field, articles found in peer-reviewed journals, published documents from well-known research groups  (e.g. Pew Research), and reports published by government agencies (e.g. NIH, CDC). Inappropriate sources would include popular websites (e.g. about.com, ehow.com, Wikipedia) or media outlets (e.g. Fox, MSNBC, WSJ, NY Times, Forbes, etc.). These sources do not always accurately report their findings and are sometimes prone to bias. If a website or article fails to report the credentials of the author and does not provide citations for the information contained in the article, chances are it is not a scholarly source and therefore should not be used.

Submit a summary of each article using the worksheet that follows. In your own words, identify the key findings of the article. Do not simply state what the article was about (e.g. “This article talks about cyberbullying.”). What specific information did you learn from your source? (e.g. “Cyberbullying has become a popular means of abuse among teenagers, affecting about half of all young people.”). Your summaries should be 2-3 paragraphs in length. Do NOT simply copy and paste the abstract or any other part of any source! This is plagiarism.
