Does violence in the media contribute to violent behavior in children?

Ashford 4: – Week 3 – Assignment

Final Paper and Annotated Bibliography
Your summative assignment for this course is a Final Paper, which is due in Week Five.  To ensure that you have time to process the material and produce a strong paper, you will create an outline your Final Paper and an annotated bibliography for submission this week. You will receive feedback on your outline and annotated bibliography to help you make your Final Paper more effective.  To begin, review the instructions for your Final Paper, which are listed in Week Five of your course or in the “Components of Course Evaluation” section of this guide.
Next, select one of the following research topics for your Final Paper:
Is corporal punishment needed to discipline children?
Does violence in the media contribute to violent behavior in children?
What techniques have professionals used to treat insomnia and how effective are those treatments?
What does research show about the effectiveness of the major techniques for promoting weight loss?
Are intelligence and personality stable across adulthood and into old age?
Then, review the PSY101 Outline and Annotated Bibliography Template, which contains the layout for this week’s assignment.  Your outline must be one to two pages in length.  Clearly identify the topic selected, and include major headings for the areas to be considered.  The major areas include:

  • A well-written introduction and conclusion with a      succinct thesis statement.
  • Summarize your sources and analyze the findings from      your research.
  • Discuss the key issues and controversies surrounding      your selected topic.
  • Identify a variety of perspectives on the selected      topic, so that the discussion is balanced and not one-sided.
  • Distinguish how cognitive and behavioral implications      might play a role in your selected topic.  What learning principles      could factor in with the topic?  What theories of motivation and      personality could influence your insights into the topic?
  • Analyze any additional research that could be done in      the future and provide solutions that could be implemented in the present      regarding your selected topic.

Under each major heading, summarize your point about that heading.  Subheadings should briefly summarize research that may both support and disagree with each viewpoint, if applicable.  This outline will form your roadmap for creating your Final Paper.
In addition to your outline, submit a one- to two- page annotated bibliography of your scholarly sources for your Final Paper.  Each source must include the APA formatted citation as well as a summary paragraph.  The summary paragraph should contain four to five well-developed sentences in your own words (do not use the abstract included with journal articles) summarizing the source and describing its applicability to your selected topic.  You are required to use a minimum of five scholarly sources that were published within the last five years and are cited according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.  Examples of scholarly sources include: peer-reviewed journal articles, research studies, professional websites with authored material, and government websites.  Popular internet sites (Wikipedia, Newsweek, New York Times, etc.) are not considered scholarly sources. These sources will also be used for writing your Final Paper.
For more in-depth assistance with your outline or annotated bibliography, please visit the Ashford Writing Center located under the Learning Resources tab in the left-hand navigation panel of your course.
The Ashford Writing Center (AWC) has two kinds of tutoring available to you.

Ashford 5: – Week 4 – Assignment

Children’s Story
Knowing how to address a variety of situations in the early childhood setting and effectively partnering with parents to do so are important skills for all teachers and caregivers. For this assignment, you will choose one of the following scenarios:

  1. Shane has a difficult time separating from his mother      each morning. At drop off, he clings to her and screams uncontrollably.      After she leaves, Shane continues to scream and cry until you are able to      soothe him.
  2. Lisa often gets frustrated when trying to play with      other children. She takes toys from their hands and even hits children      with the toys.

Next, address each of the following points according to the teaching approach/setting that best reflects your style in your desired classroom setting (e.g. Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Waldorf, traditional preschool, etc.):

  1. Outline a specific plan for addressing the discipline      or guidance scenario.

Identify five questions that you could ask someone with preschool experience about how they support language acquisition for the stages of development in the classroom

Ashford 4: – Week 3 – Assignment

Language Development Interview
Much of the knowledge we gain comes from our learning and personal experiences.  For this assignment, you will spend time talking with an experienced preschool teacher or, if you are currently a preschool teacher, you can answer the questions yourself.  Your assignment is to select five questions regarding the support of language acquisition and language developmental stages in the classroom. Please review these possible questions that could guide your interview or you can create your own questions.
For this project, choose one of the following methods of completion:
Option 1

  1. Identify five questions that you could ask someone with      preschool experience about how they support language acquisition for the      stages of development in the classroom.  Document the      interview.  You can record the interview (with permission) or you can      write your questions and answers.
  2. Analyze the provided answers using your knowledge      gained, the textbook, and at least one other resource to substantiate or      refute their answers.  You can provide elaboration for or against      their responses further strengthening your own understanding.
  3. Summarize and explain three ways you will meet the      needs of children in this stage to support their language development      using the provided answers and your knowledge.

Option 2

  1. Identify five questions that you may be asked in a      future interview regarding how you will support language acquisition for      the stages of development in your future professional role.  Document      the interview. You can record a mock interview or you can write your      questions/answers.
  2. Analyze your own answers using your knowledge gained      and information from the textbook and at least one other resource to      substantiate your writing.
  3. Summarize and explain three ways you will meet the      needs of children in a developmental stage of your choice to support their      language development using your knowledge of language acquisition.

The interview can be submitted as a video, an audio recording, or a Microsoft Word document (which would be two to three pages in length).  You will also submit a one- to two-page Microsoft Word document (in addition to the title page and reference page) with your developmental level selected and elaboration of three ways you can meet the needs of the children in this developmental stage.  Please support your ideas with information from the textbook and at least one other outside resource.  Your paper must be written in APA format as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center, and include at least one scholarly resources in addition to the course text.
When you submit your assignments each week, they will be returned to you with specific feedback.  This feedback should be used to revise the assignment for the Final Project.  Please make the necessary corrections and save for Week Five use in the Final Project.
Carefully review the Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.

Discussion: Comparing Change and Advocacy Although related, social change and advocacy differ in important ways. Each brings with it a particular perspective that has implications for the actions you might take toward resolving professional and societal issues and, therefore, the results that would ensue from these actions. To prepare: Review this week’s Learning Resources. Think about the distinction between social change and advocacy perspectives related to the professional or societal issue you selected for your Capstone Project. Consider the implications of these differences on actions that you might take, as well as the potential results. With these thoughts in mind: Post your perspective on the distinctions between social change and advocacy regarding the United Nations Environmental Protection (. Discuss the implications of these distinctions and differences. Then, explain the actions that you might take from both social change and advocacy perspectives to address the primary issues related to the strategic plan you will develop, as well as the potential results. Agree or disagree with your classmate’s position concerning whether environmental regulations help or hinder business. Use current events or your assigned readings to support your position.

Social Science Paradigms

In text citations and references need to be added in assignment.

If you have used Instagram, Photobooth, or any number of photo editing or publishing products, you may be familiar with filters that may be applied to photos. These filters can alter the mood, texture, or color of an image, thus altering how it is interpreted by others. In simple terms, social science paradigms function in the same way for research. They are like lenses that influence the perspective of a researcher. Although not theories in themselves, paradigms are fundamental frameworks of reference that underlie and give birth to theories. How paradigms differ from simple lenses, however, is that they sometimes can lie below consciousness and are not a deliberate choice. For instance, it is possible to hold such strong beliefs about a set of issues that they are unrecognizable as a paradigm and instead seem like universal truths. By examining some well-known social science paradigms this week, you can begin to analyze your own thoughts and actions and those of others to detect where and how they fit into the current mosaic of paradigms. This also will help you recognize paradigms as a researcher and consumer of research. In this Discussion, you select social science paradigms of professional interest to you and consider how they could be applied to human and social services.

Choose two social science paradigms from the Learning Resources this week (e.g., feminist, symbolic interactionism, critical race theory, etc.). Consider differences between them and how they could be applied to human and social services.

Post a description of the paradigms you selected. Explain the most important similarities and differences between the two. Finally, explain how each could be applied to human and social services research.

Note that I need some help with the methods as well. just a little help.

I will attach an example doc for a research study. the results should be similar to what in that doc. I am already done with the methods and the introduction . I just need help with the results.

I will attach my methods as well. I got a good grade for it but the instructor said it needs some modification like how to determine how to food marketing is going to be determined ?

Briefly Describe The Natural Disaster You Chose.

Application: Design-Build

Floods, storms, landslides, earthquakes, and many other types of natural disasters can leave an affected area without the ability to evacuate or to receive needed provisions. For example, transportation was severely limited on the Mississippi Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina due to the destruction of major highways and bridges. Several communities became “islands” due to the destruction of these bridges. Because people could not leave or receive needed materials and goods, a different approach was applied to re-building the highways and bridges there.

Design/Build was the process used, and this provided for the quick rebuilding of three major bridges. This process contrasts with Design/Bid/Build and combines the design, permit, and construction into one overlapping process. Design/Build involves hiring the same designer/contractor to oversee a project’s design, bid, and construction. This process was so successful in Mississippi that the first bridge built, the St. Louis Bay Bridge, won an America Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Transportation Award in 2007. Might this same process be applied to disaster recovery when re-establishing communication, business and industry, housing, and human services?

To prepare for this assignment:

Review Chapter 9 in your course text, Crisis Management in the New Strategy Landscape, and think about challenges to organizational learning in crisis management and how you might address them.

Review the article, “What is Design-Build?,” and focus on the strategies involved in the design-build model and the challenges that might be presented by it.

Think about the importance of keeping cultural and social justice considerations in mind when developing a design-build model.

Use the natural disaster you chose for Week 8 or choose a different one, other than Hurricane Katrina, and research the demographics for the area where the disaster occurred. Think about the various cultures involved and challenges there might be regarding languages or traditions.

Review the article, “Design-Build Effectiveness Study,” and think about how the concept of design-build can be applied to the natural disaster you chose.

Review Table 9-2 in your course text, Crisis Management in the New Strategy Landscape, and think about the new learning areas related to the natural disaster you chose.

Keep the natural disaster you chose in mind as you review the article, “The Dirty Dozen: Twelve Failures of the Hurricane Katrina Response and How Psychology Can Help.” Think about ways to avoid the failures presented in the article.

Review the discussions related to grief and loss in Chapter 12 of your course text, Crisis Intervention Strategies, and think about how they might impact the survivors of the natural disaster you chose.

Review the article, “Social Justice Advocacy: Community Collaboration and Systems,” and think about related issues as they apply to the natural disaster you chose.

Review the PBS video, “The Journal: Katrina Recovery Gone Wrong,” and think about how programs like the STEPS program might effect design/build strategies.

Consider ways to incorporate cultural and social justice consideration solution strategies into your design/build plan.

The assignment: (4 page paper APA Format)

Briefly describe the natural disaster you chose. Be sure to include a brief description of the demographics of the area and references for information used.

Describe ways you would address multicultural and social justice issues related to rebuilding and recovery.

Describe and justify “design/build” strategies for the natural disaster you chose.

Application: Design-Build
