We brainstorm every single day; we may just not really realize how often we do this. Before getting started review the link and it may help to hold off until after you review the chat. Now, go about your day and when you run into a problem that needs a solution it is the perfect time to practice this skill and reflect on the process itself. So let me give you an example. During covid, I worked at a public school. We needed to figure out a way to contact trace lunch. If you can imagine trying to figure out how to keep track of where 1,500 high school students, choose to sit each day during lunch you can imagine it would not be easy. I started the brainstorming process. With the brainstorming rules in mind (see chat 1) I created a list with all sorts of ideas, some even seemed impossible. I was solo in my brainstorming, but then I did bring others into my session. I had the idea to use QR codes. I am not tech-savvy so in my mind this was a crazy idea. Once others got involved, they loved the idea and knew how to implement it. In the end, each lunch chair had a QR code. The student would just scan where they sat each day, and all the data went straight to a Google doc so I could contract trace. It is amazing how creative group brainstorming can be.
