In this lesson, we talked about how literacy is power, and you did research on how not everyone has equal access to this privilege. However, many people who have had access to good schools and a quality education sometimes assert authority because of their ability to speak properly and academically. In fact, Douglass was only given such a powerful voice because of his perceived intelligence due to his articulate nature. In 150 words, develop an opinion and an argument on this topic. Does writing “academically” give a person or position more power? Or how can we learn to hear and respect speakers of less standard dialects?
