Paper about Communication Problems

Do one of the following:

a) Think of some problem of communication that you or someone you know has experienced. This could be an argument, misunderstanding, deception, aggression, or just a bad situation. Your paper should clearly describe the communication problem. Then, you should write about how the ideas you have learned so far in class can help to understand and deal with the problem.

b) Think of a movie, television show, book, or some other fiction that you have seen or read, and that describes or depicts some communication problem. This could be an argument, misunderstanding, deception, aggression, or just a bad situation. Your paper should clearly describe the communication problem. Then, you should write about how the ideas you have learned so far in class could help the characters in the story to understand and deal with the problem.

There are other useful ideas that we’ve discussed in class, that appear in the book, and that we’ll discuss in the weeks to come. Don’t try to use ALL these concepts in your paper—just use a few of them that are appropriate for dealing with your communication problem. However, it is important that you use some of these ideas accurately and thoughtfully in your paper. Don’t try to solve your communication problem based solely on your personal impressions.

In addition, your paper should:

5-6 pages

• Fulfill the page requirements

• Be double-spaced throughout
• Use 12 point Times Roman font
• Have 1 inch margins
• Have minimal errors in spelling, punctuation, and grammar
• Use ideas from readings and/or lectures thoughtfully and effectively
• Clearly cite textbook page numbers and/or lecture dates in parentheses

• Be clearly written, organized, and engaging to read
