PSY7713 WEEK 10

Week 10

  • Importance of Treatment Plans

You have a RBT who is working with a client for the first time. They are nervous and have numerous questions: Does the client have any challenging behavior? How should I run sessions? What is the reinforcement schedule? What skills will I be teaching? The answers, of course, are all found in the treatment plan. The treatment plan will lay out all the behavior strategies precisely so the RBT will have a solid foundation of what procedures to implement and how to implement them.

The final week of our course summarizes the importance of intervention plans focusing on antecedent and consequence interventions, as well as identifying functionally equivalent replacement behaviors. You will evaluate case studies and determine key features of an intervention plan to decrease challenging behavior and increase appropriate replacement behavior. In addition, you will examine relevant antecedents and setting events to modify behavior. This week will also include discussion on the importance of writing a plan so it is easily understood by those implementing the plan.

    • What You Need To Know: Learn about the critical elements of a behavior plan and how they can be utilized to facilitate behavior change.
    • Interactive Learning Module: Complete the Week 10 ABA Terminology Flashcards learning module.
    • Discussion: Reflect on the development of your intervention support plan and quick reference sheet.
    • Assignment: Attend the two-hour Instructor Contact Session.
    • Quiz: Complete the Week 10 Quiz.
  • Discussion Overview

For this week’s discussion reflect on the importance of creating evidence-based treatment plans and discuss the challenges you faced when creating the intervention support plan and the caregiver quick reference guide.

  • Quiz Overview

This quiz will assess your understanding of the topics covered in the Week 10 readings.

  • What You Need to Know

    Importance of Treatment Plans

After all critical elements of a treatment intervention have been identified, they must be presented in a treatment plan containing all of the important information regarding teaching and behavior-reduction programs. This week’s reading will focus on the critical elements of a behavior plan and how these elements can be utilized to facilitate skill acquisition and behavior reduction.

    Instructional Activities

This week, you will complete instructional activities through your participation in ICS, a quiz, and formative multimedia activities. The BCBA/BCaBA Task List (5th ed.) elements that will be covered during these activities include:

    • G-22: Use procedures to promote maintenance.
    • H-02: Identify potential interventions based on assessment results and the best available scientific evidence.
    • H-06: Monitor client progress and treatment integrity.
    • H-08: Make data-based decisions about the need for ongoing services.
    • H-09: Collaborate with others who support and/or provide services to clients.

    Capella Compassion Code

You may be directed to reflect on a section of the Capella Compassion Code in your ICS this week. Please remember to add any notes you find useful as you dive further into this code.

  • Interactive Learning Module: ABA Terminology Flashcards – Week 10

Each week, you are provided with resources to help you study and practice behavior analysis terminology. Mastering the terminology during your program will give you a solid foundation to develop examples of these terms and ultimately for practical application in the field.

This media will help you master your knowledge of the terms used this week.

Note: This media piece is included in your required instructional activities. Although you will not receive a grade for this activity, you must complete it to pass the course. You must answer each question correctly to receive credit for completing this activity.

Follow the practices in the ABA Media Best Practices [DOCX] guide to have the best possible experience with the media and to make sure you get credit for this activity.

  • Assignment Instructions

In this two-hour session, your instructor talks about specific topics related to ABA. Listen to the lecture, then respond to any ASR questions through polls, participate in small breakout groups, and engage in discussions with your peers and instructor in the chat area.

ICSs are not graded, but you must attend and participate in seven of the 10 sessions to pass the course. Participation is defined as:

    • Attending ICS by phone or Zoom.
    • Actively providing spoken or written input during ICS.
    • Responding to the ASRs through polls in Zoom.
    • Being available if code words are given out by your instructor.

It is strongly recommended that you view the recordings of any sessions that you miss to ensure that you are aware of any important information provided in the session.

Note: If you require assistive technology or alternative communication methods to participate in this activity, please contact to request accommodations.

  • Write Your Discussion Post

During this course, you developed an Intervention Support Plan and a Quick Reference Sheet. To complete these assignments, you used the library to find relevant research, determine appropriate interventions, and think like a layperson to create the reference sheet. For this discussion, address the following:

    • When writing these assignments, which pieces did you find challenging?
    • Which pieces do you think are particularly important to the success of the intervention support plan?
    • What other things can be done to increase the likelihood that the plan will be implemented? For example:
      • When should you start discussing treatment options with the client and the client’s support system?
      • How would you approach the conversation with your client?
      • How can you include choices for both your client and those involved in your client’s support system during intervention planning and oversight?

    Response Guidelines

Read the posts of your peers and respond to one. Your response should be substantive and demonstrate your understanding of the material. Which aspects of the post do you like or agree with? Are there areas that are unclear? Did the post spark questions that you would like to ask your peer? Remember to keep your tone scholarly, respectful, and professional.

  • Quiz: Take the Quiz

This quiz covers elements from the BCBA/BCaBA Task List (5th ed.) addressed this week. This quiz will help you and your instructor to assess your learning gains and mastery of the relevant learning objectives and the following course competencies:

    • Competency 1: Recommend intervention goals based on client preferences, supporting environments, risks, constraints, and social validity.
    • Competency 3: Develop a plan to measure, generalize, and maintain intervention strategies.

Please carefully read the following instructions before beginning the quiz:

    • You must complete and submit the quiz by Friday at 11:59 p.m. CST.
    • Do not start the quiz until you have completed all weekly study activities. The quiz must be completed without referring to reading materials, study aids such as flash cards, or notes.
