Example of the Presentation Annie Lee’s “Blue Monday”    A friend gave me a framed, poster size copy, of the above picture some years ago for my birthday. It’s dear to me because she thought enough of me to not only purchase the print, which I LOVE, but she had it customed framed also. I can relate to this picture on Mondays! The picture depicts a black woman, sitting on the side of her bed on a Monday, hence the name.  Different shades of blue are used throughout the art.  The woman is faceless (abstract art) and because she is faceless, the artist is saying that any woman’s face can be placed her, as we all experience Blue Mondays.  The first day of the work week, for most of us, where many times we don’t want to go, but press our way because we do “what we have to do.”  The color blue represents “melancholy.”  If you are able to increase the size of the photo, she is marking the dates off the calendar in the background. Her head is hanging because she is trying to get her thoughts together, herself together, before she begins preparing to dress, etc.  The role of the artist is #4 – Artists give form to the immaterial – hidden or universal truths, spiritual forces, personal feelings. Hidden or universal truths – Hidden, my emotional state at the thought of Monday; Universal Truths – most people don’t look forward to Monday.  Spiritual forces – I have to work to live, examples passed down from my grandparents and parents. Personal feelings – The work week should be four days instead of five.  ( You don’t have to break down the Role of the Artist like this, but you must identify one and write it out.)
