The mission of the Teaching Tolerance organization (Links to an external site.) is to “help teachers and schools educate children and youth to be active participants in a diverse democracy. To that end, the organization has developed numerous resources and tools that teachers can use in their classroom. One of those resources is the development of a set of standards and age -appropriate outcomes related to identity, diversity, justice and action. For extra credit, plan and complete (actually create) an extension art activity that you might have children do individually or collectively after hearing one of the following books read aloud. All of the books provided below focus on the justice and action standards found here (Links to an external site.) . Your art activity may be a 2 -d or 3 -d project so make sure that it includes an art related objective as well. In addition to your activity plan, write a one page paper that explains your thoughts and feelings about the book, yo ur project, what you would aim to have the students in your class know and/or understand and why.
