digitally facilitating cultures

The different cultures that members bring to groups – as well as the nature of the “group culture” itself – are all at play in the communication norms and roles that occur in small groups (both in digital and in-person groups).

Identify a group you’re in that does most or all of its communication via digital means. Then discuss some of the cultural (as a term loosely defined) history, values and principles, symbols and boundaries, initiations, etc. of that group (whether they occurred in-person or online).

Make sure to account for the role of digital technologies (e.g., lean, rich), historical contexts of cultures over time (e.g., rites, stereotypes, etc.); and different elements in labeling different “types” of cultures – all as they facilitate intercultural communication in your analysis. be sure to use the key terms from the readings and make them bold in the paper.
