The assessment tool is important to help determine baseline status of the selected population and to determine if the intervention demonstrated an improvement or regression toward the goal or outcome. Examples of reliable and valid measuring tools that could be used for pre- and post-assessment of pain include the visual analog scale (VAS), the Wong-Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale, and the FLACC scale.
