In dealing with the Fentanyl crisis, legislators have enacted the drug war playbook and proposed a variety of new punitive measures including new mandatory minimum sentences, homicide charges, involuntary commitment, expanded powers for prosecutors and more. This stance is resulting in disproportionate numbers of minorities incarcerated.  Many believe these efforts repeat the mistakes that epitomize the failed war on drugs, while undermining efforts to reform our criminal justice system and pursue a public health approach to drug use. While others believe the strong approach is necessary to handle this latest epidemic.  

Take a position and argue your point with a minimum of two points as to why you hold your opinion.

Are you for increasing the punitive measures for fentanyl-related crimes, essentially enhancing efforts to be used in the war on drugs? OR

Do you believe it should be handled as a health crisis that warrants medical intervention over incarceration?
