action plan for a community educational project

  1. Submit an essay of the developed action plan for a community educational project. The project plan should include 2 (two) goals and objectives based on your topic from Healthy People 2020, an implementation plan for implementing these activities, a budget (if necessary, not required), a justification for the project, a description of where and when the plan will be implemented, and a description of the teaching materials which will be utilized during the execution of the project. Then recommend nursing actions/interventions to improve the health concern and achieve your stated goals and objectives. Discuss potential public and private partnerships that could be formed to implement your recommendations and create a timeline (i.e. 3 month, 6 month) for potential expected outcomes.

The assignment should be written in an APA-formatted essay. The essay should be between 1250 and 1500 words in length and include at least two scholarly sources other than provided materials.

Essentials Of Nursing Research

Write a fully developed and detailed APA essay addressing each of the following points/questions. There is no required word count; be sure to completely answer all the questions for each question in detail. Separate each section in your paper with a clear heading that allows your professor to know which bullet you are addressing in that section of your paper. Sources are not required; however, if sources are used make sure to cite using the APA writing style for the essay and complete a reference page. The cover page is required. Review the rubric criteria for this assignment.

Utilize the databases identified in the text to locate an Evidence-Based Practice Guideline, related to your topic identified in Module 1. Perform a rapid critical appraisal of the Evidence-Based Guideline by answering the following questions in APA format. All questions should be answered in detail and explanations offered according to guideline content when applicable.

  • Who were the guideline developers?
  • Were the developers of the guideline representative of key stakeholders in this specialty (inter-disciplinary)?
  • Who funded the guideline development?
  • Were any of the guideline developers funded researchers of the reviewed studies?
  • Did the team have a valid development strategy?
  • Was an explicit (how decisions were made), sensible, and impartial process used to identify, select, and combine evidence?
  • Did its developers carry out comprehensive, reproducible literature review within the past 12 months of its publication/revision?
  • Were all important options and outcomes considered?
  • Is each recommendation in the guideline tagged by the level/strength of evidence upon which it is based and linked to the scientific evidence?
  • Do the guidelines make explicit recommendations (reflecting value judgments about the outcomes)?
  • Has the guideline been subjected to peer review and testing?
  • Is the intent of use provided (i.e. national, regional, local)?
  • Are the recommendations clinically relevant?
  • Will the recommendations help me in caring for my patients?
  • Are the recommendations practical/feasible? Are resources (people and equipment) available?
  • Are the recommendations a major variation from current practice? Can the outcomes be measured through standard care?

Wk6 Leadership. Assignment: Personal Leadership Philosophies

Wk6 Leadership. Assignment: Personal Leadership Philosophies

Many of us can think of leaders we have come to admire, be they historical figures, pillars of the industry we work in, or leaders we know personally. The leadership of individuals such as Abraham Lincoln and Margaret Thatcher has been studied and discussed repeatedly. However, you may have interacted with leaders you feel demonstrated equally competent leadership without ever having a book written about their approaches.

What makes great leaders great? Every leader is different, of course, but one area of commonality is the leadership philosophy that great leaders develop and practice. A leadership philosophy is basically an attitude held by leaders that acts as a guiding principle for their behavior. While formal theories on leadership continue to evolve over time, great leaders seem to adhere to an overarching philosophy that steers their actions.

What is your leadership philosophy? In this Assignment, you will explore what guides your own leadership.

To Prepare:

· Identify two to three scholarly resources, in addition to this Module’s readings, that evaluate the impact of leadership behaviors in creating healthy work environments.

· Reflect on the leadership behaviors presented in the three resources that you selected for review.

· Reflect on your results of the CliftonStrengths Assessment, and consider how the results relate to your leadership traits.

The Assignment 2 to 3 pages: 3 citations and 3 references

Personal Leadership Philosophies

Develop and submit a personal leadership philosophy that reflects what you think are characteristics of a good leader. Use the scholarly resources on leadership you selected to support your philosophy statement. Your personal leadership philosophy should include the following:

· A description of your core values

· A personal mission/vision statement

· An analysis of your CliftonStrengths Assessment summarizing the results of your profile

· A description of two key behaviors that you wish to strengthen

· A development plan that explains how you plan to improve upon the two key behaviors you selected and an explanation of how you plan to achieve your personal vision. Be specific and provide examples.

· Be sure to incorporate your colleagues’ feedback on your CliftonStrengths Assessment from this Module’s Discussion 2.

Discuss the origins of government involvement in health care delivery in the United States. What were some of the key milestones and their impacts? What are Titles 18, 19, and 21 and describe their relationships to the milestones?

Homework assignments are to be written in a Q & A format. This is different from the short application papers that must be in APA formatting. However, it is imperative that with all answered questions where the student uses another author’s concepts, statistics, numbers, or graphics that the source be both cited and referenced. All references should be complete and in APA formatting. Please make sure your name, date, and assignment name is on your homework.

There is no approved length for your answers. Your answers should be succinct and appropriate responses to the questions asked. Paraphrasing the homework questions in your answers will help ensure that you will answer all parts of each question.

NR 325 Chapter 43 Liver, Pancreas, and Biliary Tract Problems – Clinical Situations

Read the following case studies. Circle the correct answer.

CASE STUDY: Liver Biopsy

Veronica is scheduled for a liver biopsy. The staff nurse assigned to care for Veronica is to accompany her to the treatment room.

1. Before a liver biopsy, the nurse should check to see that:

a. A compatible donor blood is available.

b. Coagulation studies have been completed.

c. Vital signs have been assessed.

d. All of the above have been done. (Blood must be compatible with the patient’s to prevent a transfusion reaction. Due to bleeding risks, coagulation studies should have been completed before liver biopsy. Standard percutaneous liver biopsy observations include monitoring the patient’s vital signs every 15 minutes for the first two hours, then every 30 minutes for two hours and then hourly for the rest of the remaining period. This protocol is reasonable when one considers that 61% of complications occur within the first two hours.)

2. The nurse begins preparing Veronica for the biopsy by assisting her to the correct position, which is:

a. Jackknife, with her entire back exposed.

b. Recumbent, with her right upper abdomen exposed. (Percutaneous Liver biopsy procedure uses needle inserted between 6th and 7th or 8th and 9th intercostal spaces on the right side to obtain specimen of hepatic tissue.)

c. Lying on her right side, with the left upper thoracic area exposed.

d. Supine, with the left lateral chest wall exposed.

3. The nurse knows that the biopsy needle will be inserted into the liver between the:

a. Third and fourth ribs.

b. Fourth and fifth ribs.

c. Sixth and seventh ribs.

d. Eight and ninth ribs.

4. Immediately before needle insertion, Veronica needs to be instructed to:

a. Breathe slowly and deeply so that rib cage expansion will be minimized during needle insertion.

b. Inhale and exhale deeply several times then exhale and hold her breath at the end of expiration until the needle is inserted.

c. Pant deeply and continue panting during needle insertion so pain perception will be minimized.

d. Take a deep inspiration and not breathe for 30 to 40 seconds so that the area for needle insertion can be determined; she should then resume normal breathing for the remainder of the procedure.

5. After the biopsy, the nurse assists Veronica to:

a. High-Fowler’s position, in which she can effectively take deep breaths and cough.

b. Ambulate while splinting her incision

c. Assume the Trendelenburg position to prevent post biopsy shock.

d. The right side-lying position with a pillow placed under the right costal margin. (Keep patient lying on right side to splint puncture site.)

CASE STUDY: Paracentesis

Wendy is scheduled for a paracentesis because of ascites formation subsequent to cirrhosis of the liver.

1. Before the procedure, the nurse obtains several drainage bottles. She knows that the maximum amount of fluid to be aspirate at one time is:

a. 1L

b. 2L

c. 3L

d. 4L (Therapeutic paracentesis refers to the removal of maximum amount of fluid of 4L to reduce intra-abdominal pressure and relieve the associated dyspnea, abdominal pain, and early satiety.)

2. The nurse helps Wendy to assume the proper position for a paracentesis, which is:

a. Recumbent so that the fluid will pool to the lower abdomen.

b. Laying on her left side so that fluid will not exert pressure on the liver.

c. Semi-Fowler’s to avoid shock and provide the most comfort.

d. Upright with her feet resting on a support so that the puncture site will be readily visible. (Clients who have ascites are typically more comfortable sitting up.)

3. After the paracentesis, Wendy should be observed for signs of vascular collapse, which include all of the following except:

a. Bradycardia (Fluid volume deficit can occur due to increased fluid excretion by the kidneys or excessive diaphoresis which leads to tachycardia, not bradycardia.)

b. Hypotension

c. Oliguria

d. Pallor

CASE STUDY: Cholecystectomy

Brenda, a 33-year-old obese mother of four, is diagnosed as having acute gallbladder inflammation. She is 5 feet tall and weighs 190 lb. The physician decides to delay surgical intervention until Brenda’s acute symptoms subside.

1. Brenda’s initial course of treatment would probably consist of:

a. Analgesics and antibiotics

b. Intravenous fluids

c. Nasogastric suctioning

d. All of the above (Pain management using analgesics is critical during an acute episode of cholecystitis. Morphine may be initially given for pain management. Vomiting associated with cholecystitis may lead to metabolic alkalosis and chloride shift. Administering NaCl will help compensate the shift in chloride levels. Inserting NG Tube experiencing severe vomiting will help decompress the stomach and minimize gallbladder stimulation.)

2. After her acute attack, Brenda was limited to low-fat liquids. As foods are added to her diet, she needs to know that she should avoid:

a. Cooked fruit

b. Eggs and cheese

c. Lean meats

d. Rice and tapioca

3. Brenda is being medicated with chenodeoxycholic acid. The nurse needs to tell Brenda that the drug may not be effective if it is taken in conjunction with:

a. Dietary cholesterol

b. Estrogens

c. Oral contraceptives

d. Any of the above

Because Brenda’s symptoms continue to recur, she is scheduled for gallbladder surgery.

1. Brenda has signed a consent form for removal of her gallbladder and ligation of the cystic duct and artery. She is scheduled for to undergo a:

a. Cholecystectomy

b. Cholecystostomy

c. Choledochotomy

d. Choledocholithotomy

2. Postoperative nursing observation includes assessing for:

a. Indicators of infection

b. Leakage of bile into the peritoneal cavity

c. Obstruction of bile drainage

d. All of the above

3. Brenda needs to know that fat restriction is usually lifted after the biliary ducts dilate to accommodate bile once held by the gallbladder. This takes about:

a. 1 week

b. 2 to 3 weeks

c. 4 to 6 weeks

d. 2 months.

CASE STUDY: Alcoholic or Nutritional Cirrhosis

Nathan, a 50-year-old physically disabled veteran, has lived alone for 30 years. He has maintained his independence despite chronic back pain resulting from a war injury. He has a long history of depression and limited food intake. He drinks 6 to 10 bottles of beer daily. He was recently admitted to a veteran’s hospital with a diagnosis of alcoholic or nutritional cirrhosis. He was asymptomatic for ascites.

1. On assessment, the nurse notes early clinical manifestations of alcoholic or nutritional cirrhosis, which include all of the following except:

a. Pain caused by liver enlargement

b. A sharp edge to the periphery of the liver

c. A liver decreased in size and nodular

d. A firm liver

2. An abnormal laboratory finding for Nathan is a:

a. Blood ammonia level of 35 mg/dL

b. Serum albumin concentration of 4.0 g/dL

c. Total serum bilirubin level of 0.9mg/Dl

d. Total serum protein level of 5.5 g/Dl

3. Nathan is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 154 lb. The physician recommends 50 cal/kg for weight gain. Nathan’s daily caloric intake would be approximately:

a. 2,200 calories

MKT300-WEST SPRING 2020 Team Assignment #2: “New Product Development”

MKT300-WEST SPRING 2020
Team Assignment #2: “New Product Development”
Project Overview
• The Product/Service Project is an assignment geared toward getting you to think more like a
marketing manager or agency and apply course concepts to your new product/service.
• You will be required to create (come up with) a UNIQUE product/service and talk about
the marketing issues you will face.
• You will draw upon class concepts to articulate your strategy for segmenting, targeting,
positioning, distribution, pricing and developing the marketing mix for your product/service.
• Deliverable is a 15-minute Power Point Presentation delivered in class based on the schedule in
the syllabus. A printed copy of your Power Point is due on November 18, the date of the first
presentations. The quality and creativity of the presentation are just as important as the content.
• Remember, in real life, you would be pitching this to very busy executives. Brevity is greatly
appreciated. You will not lose points for keeping it short and sweet!
• The premise is that you are a marketing team trying to sell this idea to management.
• You will also be graded on grammar and spelling, as well as professionalism.
• Your idea must be original. If I find it is plagiarized, the team will get a failing grade.
Peer Evaluations
Similar to the first assignment, each team member is expected to contribute to the New Product
Development assignment and participate in the presentation in class. If a team member does not
participate in any way, he/she will not receive credit for the assignment. If you choose, you can
recognize any team member who warrants special consideration, either positive or negative. Grades
can and will be adjusted on an individual basis based on these peer reviews.
ORGANIZATION OF PRESENTATION (examples are suggestions for illustration purposes)
Part 1.1: Industry Choice
• In what sector and industry will you operate?
o For example, Healthcare sector, healthcare facilities industry
• Give a brief description of the size and scope of the industry
o Healthcare facilities include hospitals, surgery centers, urgent care facilities, family clinics,
and specialist clinics, and others. The industry is valued in the $ billions.
o The healthcare facilities industry is growing at approximately 10% per year (CSI Market)
• Share your reasoning for choosing this industry
o We chose this industry because one team member was an ER nurse so we have experience.
Part 1.2: The Product or the Service
• What is the offering exactly?
o For example, a 24-hour Online Physician Services (give a detailed description).
• Why did you choose this product? How does this product fit with your target market choice?
o Currently only a few online physician services and all require out-of-pocket payment. We
can add value by accepting many different insurance plans.
o Regular doctors’ offices are inconvenient and time-consuming, requiring patients to take
time off work. Allowing routine visits over the Internet saves our patients time and energy.
o Our product fits in with other physician services because we will offer advice and online
consultations with real MDs with proven credentials. Additionally, our doctors will make
house calls as needed, which will also add to our credibility.
Part 2.1: Segmentation
• What segmentation scheme will you use?
o Behavioral (volume usage)
o Demographic (age and sex), psychographic (life style)
• What is your reasoning for choosing these segmentation schemes?
o Behavioral (volume usage): people who go to the doctor more often are likely to be more
interested in alternative ways to receive health care
o Age: people’s health concerns tend to change depending on their age group
o Sex: men and women have very different health needs, and some of these are more easily
treated online than others
o Life style: people who are more active have different medical needs
Part 2.2: Targeting
• What market segments do you plan to target?
o Women age 18 – 44 who receive health care more than six times per year
• What is your reasoning for choosing these targets?
o Women: we plan to focus on women’s health services so we can specialize and give
exemplary care
o Between the ages of 18 and 44: legally old enough to sign consent for online medical
services, but young enough that they are comfortable with new technologies and online
offerings.
o Health care more than six times a year: high volume users are likely to value the
convenience that an online health care provider can provide. Additionally, because they
already visit the doctor quite often, they are likely to be repeat customers, which will
require fewer marketing resources to retain as we build our business.
o (Possible reasons could be they are currently underserved, have high profit potential, are a
large segment with little competition, large disposable income, etc.)
Part 2.3: Competition
• What is the existing competition?
• What products make up each competitor’s portfolio?
• How does each competitor differ from you, and what gaps exist in their product or service
offering?
Part 3.1: Brand Positioning
• What is your brand name (this could be the same as your product name)?
o InstaDoc
• What is your positioning statement (see Aveeno example in Chapter 12-13 Power Point-review
of chapter 11).
• What is your brand personality?
o Modern, competent and professional
• How does this align with your target market?
o Our target market is primarily younger women, who will be attracted to a more modern
personality.
o Because this is medical services, we still need to make sure we are competent and
professional so we can be trustworthy.
Part 3.3: Perceptual Map
• Draw a Perceptual Map that presents the positioning of your product/service compared to at
least 5 competitors (found in the Chapter 11 Power Point).
Part 4: Place Strategy
• What is your distribution plan?
o Our services will be offered primarily through the Internet, but customers will have the
option to have a physician visit their home.
• What is your reasoning for this plan?
• How do your competitors distribute their offerings?
o Our main competitors, Homeopathic Medical Group and Wellness Center, LLC, both have
brick and mortar offices where physicians render their services.
• How does your distribution method compare?
o Our distribution strategy is more convenient for customers
o Allows us to have less overhead because we won’t have medical offices to pay for
o People don’t tend to trust the internet as much as they would a physician that they can
interact with face to face
• How does your distribution method help position your product to appeal to your target market?
Part 5: Price Strategy
• What is the price you will charge for your offering?
• What is your reasoning for this price point?
o (Use this section to talk about your brand’s pricing objectives, any pricing strategies [e.g.
odd-even, psychological], whether the price is based on cost or competition, etc.)
• Competitors’ Pricing
• How do your prices compare?
• How does this pricing strategy help position your product to appeal to your target market?
Part 6.1: Overall Promotional Strategy
• What will be your promotional mix?
• What is your reasoning for choosing these promotional mix elements?
• How does this align with your target market?
Part 6.2: Your Ad and your Media Selection
• Design a print ad (newspaper or magazine) and or radio commercial (script) and display
it here
• Advertising medium
o Print and/or Radio
• Advertising medium reasoning
o Our target demographic spends a lot of time in their cars listening to the radio to and from
work; therefore, we feel the radio will be the most effective way to reach them.
• What is the type of ad appeal you used and how does it help position your offering to appeal to
your target market?
o The ad makes a humor (fear, guilt, etc.) appeal, which our target market will be most
responsive to because…
Part 7: Works Cited
• Present where you found the information you used in developing your project

The Age of Augustus

Reading Assignments
Tue Mar 24 Octavian, Marcus Antonius and Cleopatra
Read: Boatwright, ch. 8; L&R, #114-118, 153.

Thu Mar 26 The Age of Augustus
Read: Tuck, ch. 5; L&R, Vol I #194-195, 200, 204-211, Vol. II: The Empire, #95, 97.

Advice
Watch the recorded lectures I am posting to our Canvas site. Then read Boatwright first so you understand the general history. The assigned selections in L&R will make sense after this. Think about what important evidence is provided by each L&R selection. Then move on to Tuck’s chapter on the art and archaeology of the period. He discusses several of the works first presented in Boatwright and discussed by me, but he offers more detailed analysis. What does his chapter add to your understanding of these works?

Short Reading Essay
The essay is due Thursday, March 26th, before midnight. Upload the essay to Canvas. No printed copies will be needed, alas. I will grade your essays and post feedback on Canvas. I am available to answer questions live via Zoom each Thursday, 11:00-12:30. I have posted the Zoom link on our Canvas site. In addition, I am very happy to discuss the material by email or by a personal Zoom session.
The essay should be two pages (longer is fine), typed and double spaced. Briefly summarize the events covered in the week’s reading. Then address the following questions:
1. What biases to the written Roman sources in L&R display?
2. Why do Antony and Cleopatra lose the war to Octavian?
3. How does Octavian establish himself as the emperor Augustus? What powers does he assume?
4. Discuss Augustus’ Classicizing and Archaizing works of art and buildings. Compare these to the local Italic style embraced by some Romans. What message is Augustan art trying to convey?

In your essay, draw on the documents in L&R, the material in Boatwright, and the evidence presented by Tuck.
Include the bibliography for these sources at the end of your essay (this is in addition to the two page minimum length). Use Chicago/Turabian style (instructions available in the Fondren Library research guides on-line).
The grade for the essay will rest primarily on your argument and your use of the sources. Be sure to spell-check and proof-read your essay before you submit it.
