- Fraud in the News
INTRODUCTION
While not all fraud incidents make it into the business press, many do. This week you will be exploring recent incidents outlined in the Wall Street Journal. Take for instance the case of Rita Crundwell, the former comptroller of the small town of Dixon, IL., who stole over $53 million over decades and was sentenced to more than 19 years in prison in 2013 (Peters, 2013.) Major cases are often covered in the news when the Department of Justice or SEC are involved in the investigation. Other legal action can also receive new coverage.
