In this unit, you are examining how you are affected by your sensations, perceptions, and different states of consciousness. Though appearing as separate processes, these three concepts are experienced in a fluid, continuous experience. By breaking them down and examining them further you can gain more understanding of human thinking and behavior. Consider your career goals and what sensations and perceptions will be most important for you to be productive and successful in your work. Discuss what states of consciousness could impact your work and those around you that impact your work. Describe what Gestalt psychology is about and explain why it does or does not relate to your career goals.

3. In this unit, you are looking at different theories that attempt to explain human personality, as well as how people are influenced by those around them. All of these theories have strongly impacted the field of psychology, but usually one stands out above the rest for each individual student. . In this Discussion Board, you will further examine a theory of your choosing and use it to help explain why you have chosen to go into your career field. You will also choose a peer-reviewed research article from the library that relates to your career field in some important way. This will help you practice choosing a peer-reviewed research article for later discussions and your Unit 8 Assignment. After reading about the different personality theories (psychodynamic, behavioral, humanistic, social-cognitive, biological, trait), choose one that most interests you. Describe the theory and why you think it helps explain your career choice. Use the abstract and introduction section of your chosen peer-reviewed research article to explain how it relates to your career choice. Use the Cite link next to your article to include an APA reference to it.

4. In your reading this week, you learned about the definition of psychological disorders and how to diagnose and classify them. You also took a closer look at symptoms to some of the more common psychological disorders that we see these days. Explain what is necessary to determine if a person may have a psychological disorder. Discuss what the library research article indicated about depression in our society. Choose one psychological disorder to examine more closely. Describe the symptoms that would be necessary to determine that a person may have this disorder.

5. In this unit, as you further your knowledge about psychological treatment and therapy, consider a possible psychological problem that a person might have in your career field. Locate a peer-reviewed research article from the Purdue Global Library that somehow relates to this psychological problem. Describe what psychotherapy technique would be most helpful in addressing a psychological problem that a person may have in your career field. Discuss what treatment modality would be most helpful in addressing the psychological problem (i.e., biomedical, individual, group, family, couples counseling). Explain which research article you chose and what can be learned from it by focusing on information in the abstract and introductory section. Be sure to use the cite link next to the article to help reference the article APA style.

6In this unit, you are examining how people learn information and how they develop. Behaviorism is a school of thought in psychology that attempts to explain learning through different types of associations and conditioning. Think about how this type of learning occurs in your own life, as well as developmental theories. Describe things that you have learned through the process of classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and observational learning. How did you learn them? Choose one of the developmental debates and explain your view on it with relevant examples (continuous/discontinuous, one course/many, nature/nurture). Identify one theorist of development (Piaget, Erikson, Freud, or Kohlberg) and explain why this person’s theory makes the most sense to you.

In this unit, you are further examining thinking, intelligence, and memory. Think about typical problems that college students face and ways in which they go about solving them. Consider ways that you stimulate intelligence, use emotional intelligence, and study effectively. Describe a common type of problem that a college student has to solve. What types of bias can influence people’s decisions? Discuss what helps stimulate intelligence in your environment and how emotional intelligence impacts your life. Explain a study technique that you have found to be particularly effective. How is it similar to or different from the strategies discussed in the text

A Day in the Life

Your Assignments in this course will take you through “A Day in the Life” of a healthcare professional. You will be given the opportunity to apply the concepts that you have learned throughout the course to a variety of situations that a healthcare professional might face.

In addition to the grading standards found in the Syllabus, projects will also be graded on accuracy and application of course materials. Each answer should be at least 1 paragraph in length, including supporting facts from the textbook and references.

Directions:

Read the case study. Respond to the questions that correspond to the scenario and upload to the appropriate Dropbox.

Each question should be answered in complete sentences, using correct sentence structure. Responses should be free of grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors.

Case Study:

A student has recently graduated from college with a health related degree. She is now ready to pursue her career. A friend recommends that she obtain membership in the professional organization related to her career before starting her job search.

Questions to answer:

  1. What is the name of the professional organization related to your chosen career? (NOTE: a list of professional organizations can be found in Chapter 5 of the text).
  2. How will your professional Code of Ethics help to guide you in making decisions?
  3. Does your professional organization offer a credentialing Exam for your career? If so, what is the name of the credential you can receive after passing the Exam?
  4. Define scope of practice. What determines the scope of practice for your chosen career?
  5. Based on the Code of Ethics for your chosen healthcare profession, list and explain three standards of professionalism.
  6. What could happen to someone who violates their professional Code of Ethics?

Safety And Agency Responsibility

When you walk into a human services organization, do you think about your safety? What about when you prepare to make a home visit or attend a meeting in the community? As a social worker, you may find yourself in situations in which your personal safety is at risk. Although you, as an administrator, cannot prepare for every situation, you should be proactive and put a plan into place to address issues related to workplace violence in the event that it occurs.

For this Assignment, focus on the Zelnick et al. article on workplace violence and consider what plan you might want to have in place if you were an administrator having to address a similar workplace violence situation.

Assignment (2–3 pages in APA format):

Draft a plan for a human services organization explaining how to address traumatic emergency situations. Include both how to respond to the emergency and how to address any long-term effects. Finally, based on this weeks resources and your personal experiences, explain your greatest concern about the safety of mental health professionals working in a human services organization.

Supervising Others

Take a minute and think about the supervisors you have had in the workplace. What were characteristics of effective supervisors? As you reflect on these experiences, consider how supervision affected your ability to complete the tasks associated with your job. Also, think about how leadership styles can influence the relationship between social workers and their supervisors.

For this Assignment, review the Petrakis case study in this week’s video and note how supervisory and leadership skills are portrayed.

Assignment (4–5 paragraphs)

Complete the following Journal entry:

  • Identify attributes of leadership styles and approaches that facilitate quality supervision.
  • Evaluate the supervisory and leadership skills demonstrated in the Petrakis case study by identifying which supervisory and leadership skills the supervisor demonstrated.
  • Explain whether the supervisor in the video demonstrated quality supervision, and why. Provide specific examples to support your evaluation.

Participatory planning is an urban planning paradigm that emphasizes involving the entire community in the strategic and management processes of urban planning

RESPOND TO VICTORIA AND SHAQUITA POST WITH A 100 WORDS

Victoria post

Participatory planning is an urban planning paradigm that emphasizes involving the entire community in the strategic and management processes of urban planning; or, community-level planning processes, urban or rural. It is often considered as part of community development. Participatory planning aims to harmonize views among all of its participants as well as prevent conflict between opposing parties. In addition, marginalized groups have an opportunity to participate in the planning process.

I wasn’t sure if I was apart of Participatory planning, but the first thing that came to mind was volunteering, community service. So I looked up Community Participatory planning on this site wfp264473.pdf

In the past, I did do some volunteer work but feeding my community. I’m not sure how or who start the program, but I do know that I did my part and that was cooking and feeding people who were in need. My role as a cook was probably the easy part of the planning because all I had to do is get everything ready and just having someone supervise to make sure nothing gets overcooked. Then fix everyone’s plate who showed up.

Shaquita post

A participatory planning measure constructs trust, both between your association and the network and among the people in question. This trust can fill in as an establishment for future network improvement and network activity. An example of a time when I was involved in participatory planning included a meeting at work with Human Resources. Myself, along with my immediate supervisor, union representatives and Human resource had to come up with a plan that benefited staff when it came to staff taking time and working from home due to Covid-19. Although, the concern was high due to some employees having health issues or caring for a family member with health issues, upper management felt it was important for staff to continue to serve the public. Some benefits of participatory planning includes the usage of inexpensive resources, helps build self-confidence, help with self development, and they are interesting and fun helping to involve people in the subject.

In response to your Tammie and Jaimee post below, state how the uses of statistics they mentioned are helpful in the contexts described. For example, you could discuss why alternative ways of communicating information would not work as well.

Tammie post

Honestly, statics is a class I have put off as long as possible, so it’s now or never. Statics in psychology is used to collect and analyze large quantities of data. Psychology relies upon statistics to assess the meaning of things studied and the importance of bias, representation, measurement, significance, and correlations. Therefore, learning to analyze and record data.

One way I can think of that statistic’s is used in auto insurance. When I was living in Arizona my auto insurance was cheaper than when I moved back to Texas. Looking at stats for things such as flooding, tornados, hailstorms increased my rates here in Texas, unlike Arizona where it is just hot as heck and dry most of the time. Therefore, looking at a higher possibility to file a damage claim, which let me tell you is a nightmare after a hurricane.

Jaimee post

Statistics is a vital requirement for psychology because it proves that our data is accurate or false to certain issues. In my opinion, a psychologist is the scientist when it comes down to research, gathering data, and using analysis to complete an authorized case study. In order to seek diagnoses you must follow statistics in order to pick the right treatment for that patient. There are a lot case studies that uses statistics as a way of answering complex theories and complex data.

I previously had a class about business statistics and analysis last year. I learned more about probability distribution, standard deviation, how to calculate statistics and understanding charts and graphs to help me calculate data from a case study. The case study can be about the causes of cardiac arrest, causes of bipolar disorder, and other unknown health issues. I learned that it can be easy to miscalculate a chart or graph, you must follow a precise calculation in order for you to prove accuracy in your data. Statistics can help support your case study and it can help other researchers to follow your method and treatments for better quality of care.

Information Literacy

[WLOs: 3, 4] [CLOs: 3, 4]

Prepare: Knowing how to thoroughly research a topic (international drug trafficking) is extremely important while achieving your education. You may be asked to support your information with peer-reviewed scholarly resources, but how can you find this type of resource? The Ashford University Library allows you to search through different avenues to find the requested types of resources. You can narrow your search by the author, year published, title, subject, and by indicating what type of resource you are looking for. You even have access to a librarian if you need some guidance in finding more resources on your topic.

Reflect: Given that you have been in college for awhile, it’s time to reflect on what you have learned through the use of the Ashford University Library in relation to how you learned to acquire new information from a variety of sources.

Write:  in a two- to three-paragraph response with each paragraph consisting of five or more sentences,

  • Describe your experiences using resources, including concerns encountered when conducting academic research through the Ashford University Library. Areas of concern may include developing a research strategy, using the search function within a database, or evaluating sources.
  • Explain how using the Ashford University Library has improved your experience in conducting research. For example, you could identify and explain how specific tutorials that you have used have helped improve your ability to conduct research.

The Information Literacy paper

  • Must include at least two paragraphs (of at least five sentences each) that respond to the two prompts, and that are formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center’s APA Style (Links to an external site.) resource.
  • Must include a separate title page with the following:
    • Title of paper
    • Student’s name
    • Course name and number
    • Instructor’s name
    • Date submitted

Considering Context

One of the central premises of social psychology is the power of the situation. The very definition of social psychology reflects this, pointing out the influence of others on thoughts, feelings, and actions.  In this discussion, we will consider contextualization by evaluating the fundamental and far-reaching role of culture.

To inform your thinking on this topic, begin by reading “Toward a Psychological Science for a Cultural Species” (Heine & Norenzayan, 2006), “Lessons Learned from a Lifetime of Applied Social Psychological Research” (Ross, 2004), and “Reflections on the Stanford Prison Experiment: Genesis, Rransformations, Consequences” (Zimbardo, Maslach, & Haney, 2000).

Then, locate a peer-reviewed empirical article (see Scholarly, Peer Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources (Links to an external site.)) describing a research study that examines a psychological phenomenon from a cultural perspective.  Discuss the research, considering the various elements of a critical review (see Using a Scientific Journal Article to Write a Critical Review (Links to an external site.)) with reference to/explanation of the more broad social-pychological domain (social thinking, social relations, social influence).  Appraise the role of culture in our psychological understanding of this phenomenon.  Assess the relevance of one “lesson” of applied psychology (Ross, 2004) to your selected study.

Persuasion In Everyday Life

small group discussion

For this GRADED discussion, you will work with your peers. In your initial post, start by introducing yourself to the class. You may share where you’re from, your major, your career and educational goals, or any other information you are comfortable discussing. After you introduce yourself, think about a time in your life where you tried to persuade someone to do something. Keep in mind that this doesn’t have to be a situation that was a full-blown argument—it can be something as simple as convincing a friend to go to a specific restaurant for lunch—and it doesn’t have to be a situation where you “won” the other person over either.

Before you begin writing, please review the discussion rubric below to make sure you fulfill all of the required tasks.

When you’ve come up with the moment, write two fully developed paragraphs in addition to your introduction explaining it to your classmates. In the first paragraph, describe the moment of persuasion so that your instructor and peers can “see” it. In the second paragraph, explain why you felt like that moment of persuasion was either successful or unsuccessful. What strategies or techniques did you use to try to get the person to side with you?

When you’ve finished, read over your peers’ posts and respond to at least two of them with at least one fully developed paragraph. What is your reaction to their moment of persuasion? Would you have done the same thing, or would you have approached the situation differently? Why or why not? Remember, your approach can be completely different from your peer’s approach, as you can bring your own unique perspectives and life experiences to the situation.

Keep an eye out for responses on your original thread throughout the week and be sure to respond to them as well. Try to keep the conversation going throughout the module.
