Describe the first three steps you would take to begin the strategic planning process for a human services organization

In this assignment, you consider how leaders can engage in a strategic planning process with stakeholders to develop a plan to guide the organization’s evolution and development for the long-term. Since strategic planning should engage persons who will be affected by an organization’s decisions (e.g., staff, administration, board members, members of the community), it is important to include key stakeholders in the planning process so that it reflects their perspectives and interests.

For this Assignment, think about how you would begin the strategic planning process for a human services organization. Consider the human services organizations for which you have worked either in your fieldwork or as an employee. Based on what you know about a particular organization, what steps might you take to establish a plan for the organization’s long-term development?

Assignment (2–4 pages in APA format): Describe the first three steps you would take to begin the strategic planning process for a human services organization. Be sure to include the key stakeholders—who should be involved in each step and why they need to be included in the process. In addition, include steps you would take to establish stakeholder support and confidence.

Note: Although you will base your strategic plan on what you know about an actual organization, do not include any identifying information about the organization or its stakeholders.

An analysis of the relationship between study design and statistical analysis used in the case study

tatistical analysis software is a valuable tool that helps researchers perform the complex calculations. However, to use such a tool effectively, the study must be well designed. The social worker must understand all the relationships involved in the study. He or she must understand the study’s purpose and select the most appropriate design. The social worker must correctly represent the relationship being examined and the variables involved. Finally, he or she must enter those variables correctly into the software package. This assignment will allow you to analyze in detail the decisions made in the “Social Work Research: Chi Square” case study and the relationship between study design and statistical analysis. Assume that the data has been entered into SPSS and you’ve been given the output of the chi-square results. (See Week 4 Handout: Chi-Square findings).

To prepare for this Assignment, review the Week 4 Handout: Chi-Square Findings and follow the instructions.

By Day 7

Submit a 1-page paper of the following:

  • An analysis of the relationship between study design and statistical analysis used in the case study that includes:
    • An explanation of why you think that the agency created a plan to evaluate the program
    • An explanation of why the social work agency in the case study chose to use a chi square statistic to evaluate whether there is a difference between those who participated in the program and those who did not (Hint: Think about the level of measurement of the variables)
    • A description of the research design in terms of observations (O) and interventions (X) for each group.
    • Interpret the chi-square output data. What do the data say about the program?

What is your understanding of the difference between self-efficacy and ability

Your writing should illustrate knowledge of the concepts through an original personal and/or professional integration of the assigned text material. Sociocultural factors must be included when relevant.  This is covered throughout the course text. You are encouraged to use outside, current research to enhance sociocultural integration.
Your response to each question should be approx. 1 page per question.

Total assignment should be 6-7 pages plus a title and reference page

1.  People with a deliberative mindset are very good at thinking about what they need to do, whereas people who have developed an implemental mindset have the ability to narrow in on a specific goal or facets of a specific goal.  Considering an example from your own life, how might you develop a deliberative or implemental mindset to complement the mindset that you already use?

2.  What is your understanding of the difference between self-efficacy and ability?  Is there a difference?  Is the difference important? Give an original example to support your response.

3.  Imagine being a cognitively oriented therapist who has two clients. One client suffers from severe self-doubt about his capacity to cope successfully with the demands of college.  College is an overwhelming experience.  What strategies might you use to reverse his high doubt and replace it with high confidence?  The other client suffers from severe helplessness about her capacity to cope successfully with her boyfriend relationship.  Her boyfriend is unresponsive, and everything she tries to do to improve the relationship seems to fall on a deaf ear.  What strategies might you use to reverse her high helplessness and replace it with mastery motivation?

4.  Suppose you are a counselor at a summer camp for delinquent pre-teenage boys who lack any occupational aspirations and exhibit antisocial interaction styles.  You are having a meeting to brainstorm how to use the possible selves literature to provide these boys with an expanded view of their future selves.  Would this meeting be a good idea or a bad idea, and why? Include a discussion of the biological basis of antisocial behavior.

5.  In the following example, explain why the emotion of fear/terror rather than the physiological need for air is the primary motivator: A child puts a sweater on over his head, it gets stuck, and the child experiences a moment of air deprivation.  He then shows panic-like emotion and finally coping behavior. Differentiate between the emotional and biological aspects of the child’s reaction.

6.  Discuss the “cognition versus biology” debate in the study of emotion.  Outline first the cognitive position and then the biological position.  Discuss one possible, satisfying resolution to the cognition versus biology debate, using an original example to illustrate this resolution.

As an astute social worker and professional policy advocate

As an astute social worker and professional policy advocate, you must be adept at identifying social problems that exist in your community or in an agency or organization with which you are acquainted. Once you have selected a social problem, you begin the process of creating and implementing a policy that addresses that social problem.
In this assignment, you identify and describe a current social problem. You also identify a policy created and implemented to address the problem. This is the first part of your Social Change Project final assignment.

Complete Part 1 of your Social Change Project.
Address the following items in a 3-4 page paper:

  • Describe a current social problem. How might this problem be incongruent with social work values/ethics?
  • How/when has this problem been identified historically, and what were the actions taken to address this concern?
  • How have the groups affected by this concern changed over time?
  • Describe the policy area related to this social problem.
  • Is the policy identified by your group dictated by local, state, or federal statute—or a combination thereof?
  • What are the different aspects of the policy?
  • How long has the current policy been in place?
  • Who supports and who opposes the policy?
  • What changes/amendments have been made to the policy?
  • Explain how this policy affects clients you might see in a clinical setting and why, as a clinical social worker, it would be important to advocate for change.

Describe an experience that directly affected you or that you observed where someone was treated as an O

Essay: Answer each prompt using at least 400 words.

  1. Describe an experience that directly affected you or that you observed where someone was treated as an “O”. What did you, or could you have done to minimize this experience?
  2. Think of 3 different ages or points in your life, for example, ages 6, 12, and 18.
    • What racial identity development stage would you say you were in for each of these stages and why?
    • What factors can you think of that may have impacted any changes in your racial identity development stages from one age to another?
    • Do you feel that each of these stages could have been better supported by the caregivers, educators, peers, or colleagues around you?
  3. Reflecting on the McNickles section, what explains the perception gap that exists between whites and African Americans when it comes to matters of race and racism? Do you agree with McNickles?
  4. The ability to communicate in English is important for many jobs and therefore some companies offer ESL (English as a Second Language) courses to their non-English-speaking employees. One alternative to requiring company-sponsored ESL instruction is to require that all potential employees meet an English language proficiency standard before they may be hired. Compare and contrast these two alternatives in terms of advantages and disadvantages to the company.

Pick a non-US film from the period 1960-present

This research paper should be approximately 2500 words (not including the bibliography or footnotes)

Chicago manual of Style is to be followed for citations:

http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide/citation-guide-1.html (Links to an external site.)

Include a bibliography at the end of your paper

Please maintain academic integrity. If you plagiarize, it will be reported and you will fail the class

  • Pick a non-US film from the period 1960-present.
  • You may write a comparative paper if you so wish, but please do not write about more than 2 films.
  • You must use at least 5-6 sources you have found during research. All 5/6 sources may be secondary, but if you want to include primary sources, limit these to 2, with the others being scholarly, secondary sources rather than popular sources (check with your TA if you are unsure which is which)
  • The choice of film is yours, you may use a film from the syllabus, or from off the syllabus, but you must have access to the film (so you can watch it repeatedly in order to write your paper)
  • Write a research based paper in which you critically analyze and discuss the film through a historical framework. When thinking about which kind of framework or focus you want to take, consider some of these potential avenues:
    • How concepts of authorship or film style were affected by the political environment in which the film was made e.g. under fascism, post-colonialism…
    • The role the government played in constricting or liberating film production, for example, through legislation or subsidies and other financial support.
    • Other cultural or social issues that the film/s may address directly, such as youth culture, feminism, immigration, violence, etc. These issues must be historically situated within a specific national context (in other words, think about why are your issue is important, or being debated in the time and place the film is being made?) This information will help you analyze your film, by providing historical context for your analysis.

Tips

  • Try to identify a question you want to answer through writing the paper. You can make this question the title of your paper. Answering this question will result in your thesis.
  • Show your research in your writing – include information from primary sources you have used, and cite/quote what other film scholars have written about your chosen topic. However, remember to keep the thesis original and your own.
  • Use your chosen film to support your argument and discuss your topic. There should be a good balance between presenting your research, and analyzing the film/s.
  • Once you’ve written your paper, read it out loud. You can improve flow by checking your writing this way.

Crisis Theory And Resiliency Theory To A Case Of Tiffani Bradley

It is common for social workers to be presented with a crisis situation brought forth by clients, families, communities, and/or organizations. The ultimate goal is to restore the client to equilibrium. The five stages of the crisis are (1) the hazardous event, (2) the vulnerable stage, (3) the precipitating factor, (4) the state of active crisis, and (5) the reintegration or crisis resolution phase.

There are times when a social worker will use more than one theory to assist in conceptualizing the problem and intervention, particularly if the theories complement each other. For example, resiliency theory can be used alongside crisis theory.

To prepare: Review and focus on the same case study that you chose in Week 2.

Submit a 2-page case write-up that addresses the following:

  • Map the client’s crisis using the five stages of the crisis.
  • Describe the client’s assets and resources (in order to understand the client’s resilience).
  • Describe how you, the social worker, will intervene to assist the client to reach the reintegration stage of the crisis. Be sure that the intervention promotes resiliency.
  • Evaluate how using crisis theory and resiliency theory together help in working with a client.

Be sure to:

  • Identify and correctly reference the case study you have chosen.
  • Use literature to support your claims.
  • Use APA formatting and style.
    • Remember to double-space your paper.

The legend of King Arthur is well-known in literature

Please read the question to be answered carefully–this assignment is not asking you to write about The Legend of King Arthur. The prompt for the essay is below:

The legend of King Arthur is well-known in literature. Based on Unsolved Mysteries of History, there is little to suggest it is true. Do you think it is important for people to believe in legends like King Arthur even if there is little evidence to support them? Why or why not? Write a short (3 paragraphs) explanatory essay stating your opinion. Justify your opinion and conclusions with relevant textual evidence (quotes or paraphrased ideas from sources) and background knowledge. Remember to use relevant vocabulary from the text in your essay.
